I'm doing maybe six or seven things at the same time. [Music] I listen to music on one screen, I'm on the internet on the other, and then I might have a small chat homepage and maybe a small window with a movie on it. [Music] Especially when it comes to reading particularly long factual texts, it becomes

very difficult to stay focused. I interrupt myself all the time. I have a hard time remembering what I just read. I'm having this kind of brain stop. [Music] There have been so many times that I've kind of messed up on a test that I thought I went really well on. But that's not how it is.

And it has made me very disappointed in myself. And then I kind of just gave up trying. Many people say that talent and aptitude are what determine how well you will do in school. But that's not true. More important than talent is how you use your time and what attitude you have. But above all, what strategies you

use when you learn. Studying without strategies is a bit like looking for treasure without a treasure map. My name is Martin Fernström. I'm a teacher and I know that everyone can become so much better with the right learning strategies. [Music] In this program series, I will visit a completely ordinary high school class with the

goal of making them realize how much more fun and easier school can be with the right strategies. In each program, I follow a student a little more closely to see how learning strategies can help that particular student develop. [Music] Being a good reader is crucial in almost all school subjects. And becoming a good

reader is actually not as difficult as it sounds, it's just about simple and smart strategies. I usually divide reading of factual texts into three parts. Before, during and after. Before is what you do before you start reading. Below is how you then read the text itself and what you do with the information you have
