on this country and the wisdom that they have it feels very appropriate to be doing this very important protocol at this time as we acknowledge both the wisdom of our elders um the resilience of our communities and the importance of the continuation of Storytelling um I'm Lissa Barren and I'm uh very privileged to be welcoming you
to um the bad Sydney crime Writers Festival um and also a big welcome to everyone joining us by Zoom um especially those in New South Wales who are watching through your local libraries so um this panel is called Justice and the wisdom of Elders and we're asking is Justice delivered justly to all or are some groups better served
by Justice systems than others to so to explore this question we're very honored with the company and wisdom of three remarkable people Anie Barbara Nicholson uh Annie bromin penrith and uh Ronnie gory who I would consider a young Auntie um and and in this way um a very um remarkable group of of women um I'm from a culture that
I'm very proud honors our women as they become older and celebrates their wisdom and intelligence and I just want to underline one thing about the concept of Elders in our community we don't give ourselves that title you don't get to be one by reaching a certain age it's a title that's given to you by other
people out of their respect for you out of what you've done it's earned and in each of their own ways my panelists have earned it even so Ronnie and I would say we're still on that path importantly but I just want to say that put that in that context um with those introductory
