good morning it's good to see

you so I leave Cuda tomorrow morning I'm getting a a high a car and a driver to take me to the harbor and a ferry back there's no shuttle bus there's not too many people are taking the ferry back that way they normally go up to sang gigy and across to the ghillies and get

a fast boat so I thought today I'd offer my opinions on Cuda as I'm leaving uh I'll just do a simple walk through the the town and um give you my thoughts so who would come to kudal lombok in the South I guess if you're a surfer you can't go wrong the amount of brakes

around here are um incredible there's uh left and right handers there's Point brakes there's sand bars and the town is pretty much set up for surfing there's innumerable boats boats everywhere that you can rent for uh to take you out to the brakes there's guides there's surf schools there's High shops there's everything you need if you're a surfer

will be accommodated for as well as cheap accommodation and and cheap food another person that might want to come to uh kudal Lok is somebody who likes beaches the beaches here as far as I'm concerned are some of the best in Southeast Asia the beaches I showed you in this series from Cuda were the main sort of

touristy beaches but there's a plethora of other beaches that are available for people when um if you're looking for that type of thing and the thing I really really enjoy about um the beaches here apart from the sand and the uh relatively clean water away from the The Villages is the dramatic coastlines

these knobs and nulls and the way the Headlands sort of plunge into uh into the water the whole Coast is just a series of bays and Headlands and if you uh if you hire a scooter and head out it's um head out for a day or two it's just wonderful riding uh the beaches

themselves spectacular as far as I'm concerned so you if you're into beaches that would be another person that would um that would come and enjoy

Cuda another person who might enjoy Cuda would be someone who enjoys fishing I'm surprised there isn't more to support the industry because it doesn't matter what day I go out there's Just Fish everywhere the fishermen are bringing fish some of you may see um some big fish as well but there's not really an industry here there are boats

available to take you fishing um but there's not really maybe I'm wrong but I get the sense there's not really a specialized industry here yet I tried it myself um and that didn't go particularly well for me and I'll explain that in in another another part of this um little walk through the um

the fisherman would absolutely love it here even handlining out the side of it boat there's there's lots to be uh lots to be had as far as Cuisine and food and that's someone coming to Southern lombok or Cuda for food I'm probably not the person to ask I um I haven't really explored sasak food I haven't really got

my teeth into pardon the P sasac food so I'm not really qualified to um to comment on it I guess um which is probably a bit lazy on my part but there's also a person that might also enjoy um konok is just someone that wants some some cheap living there's some cheap rooms to be had here uh the

little warong are as cheap as all the other warong um and if you're out of town a little bit if you're out of town a little bit uh there's some pretty little Villages that you can Hi how are you I'm fine fck about a bake bike yeah yeah yeah yeah okay oh yeah mon

yeah he hello um so there's some nice little places just just tucked away from the main Central Cuda Village um and you they're relatively quiet U they offer a sense of what village life really is like um and if you just wanted to come here and write maybe or you wanted to read or you had a hobby that sort of

just you know you wanted to be tucked away with uh I think Cuda offers you a good to do that as well thanks John nice to meet you Wayne take care another subscriber I've met um that's three for the day I really enjoy it when people stop me and come up and we have a chat we've got shared interest

you know but um I guess we should talk about now is um what about the the people in southern lombok in Cuda I think we have to be careful here I think we have to be really careful because you know hello hi hi he we robbert okay I think we have to be a little bit

careful in making comparisons because you know I I you know I know a lot of us are barley lovers and we stay in barley a lot that that bar that the bines have set for their friendliness and um likability and Warmness and all that sort of stuff that's about as high as it

gets anywhere I've been to in the world and I haven't traveled as far as many but I've traveled a little bit I've never experienced anything like it so if we're going to have oh there's something going on up here I just I don't know what he's doing he's got caught on a tree is he yeah this is the other thing

that sort of you can hate about it but you I don't know the chaos is um I know he just unloading some [Music] sand so yeah many of you will um be familiar with sort of traffic being backed up for kilometers sometimes because there's someone unloading sand or someone's got a flat tire or

something similar but yeah while he's getting out of here you know the bones culture and the warmth of the bones is exceptionally good and so if you're coming here expecting the same kind of um greeting or same kind of interaction you're probably going to be uh a little bit disappointed it's not that it's it's not

that the people who um who live in lombok are particularly um unlikable or anything like that it's more more I think to do with they haven't had perhaps the exposure and the experience of um having a lot of tourists come and they they sort of they're still a bit rough around the edges and a bit

abrupt um they can you know it has got a history uh unfortunately of of uh some instances in relation to tourists and travelers they're really really um yeah quite quite nasty uh we don't hear those nasty stories anymore so it is slowly evolving into a more tourist friendly place um to give you an example of the

types of things that you're having to deal with uh as many of you know I had a boat here when I used to live here in 2010 and I was in business with a local fell and I sort of financed it all and he ran it um so we went down to the

local banjo or the local Chief at the the village and said look we want to more our boat here um can we do that and we'll pay you a fee each month and um he was very very happy with that and he assured us it' be fine it'll be safe uh and basically what I'd do is I'd go out

I used to go out a little bit more in the evenings so I'd go out uh to the bars just playing guitar and jamming and uh you know I'd meet people I'd say if you look on to if you want to go camping or fishing I thought there was a market here for a you know professional fishing

tour operator in a small boat uh I used to go and see people and you know as I'd meet them say you know get in touch with us this is where I am it started to go okay shortly after things um the boat started going out a little bit uh often um I was getting phone calls

from my partner saying um boss you better come down someone's taken an outrigger one of the stabilizers that um keeps the boat centered that you know the two pieces of wood that hang off the side of it people were starting to take those uh someone took the awning off the top of the boat which I'd spent money on

putting on they just went out there at night time and took it now no one else's Boats were getting um sort of um used or vandalized one morning I got a phone call and said boat the boat boss the boat's not here someone had cut the uh moing rope that we had it on and it had

washed down the down the beach it had washed down the beach and um was getting broken up with the waves they weren't big waves well they big for the time there's a bit of wind about but um so the the message was being sent essentially that we don't like what you're doing because I guess we were

doing it we were doing it relatively successfully and you know it didn't take them long to work out that I was perhaps involved and that Western involvement wasn't um yeah wasn't welcome there's other stories too that that that are quite nasty a lot more nasty than that um the reality is if you're coming here

expecting the same expecting the same warmth and um welcome if you're coming expecting the same warmth and welcome as you find in barley you won't get it unfortunately that's just the way it is it's changing slowly but um you know I had a uh I had an argument with a guy that parked my bike

today uh because he wanted me to keep my bike unlocked and I I don't keep my bike unlocked for anyone you know the bike stays locked and he wouldn't let me keep it there if I was going to not unlock it and I said look you know where just tell me where is the best place for it now

and I'll come back in half an hour every every hour and I'll move for you if you need it there's no real need for it to be moved you know and he wasn't having any of it and it took someone else to come over who uh one of the ladies in the warong where I uh I spent some time

she came over and spoke to him and he begrudgingly let me keep it there unlocked but it wasn't a it wasn't an inter an interaction or a negotiation that was done with um a great deal of respect and I think this is where the bones Sur last many um he was quite aggressive and it was it wasn't it

wasn't a great interaction and this unfortunately isn't oneof things these interactions uh seem to be repeated and that was like that when I was here before so look the people generally are fine every now and again you're going to lock horns or someone's going to be unhappy with you and how you let it

affect you is another thing like if you want to if you want to take it on board and you know be put out of shape and and become frustrated and angry by that well that's that's your choice uh we only uh things only affect us as much as we let them you know so um I think we've got to

take a little bit of patience with us wherever we go and you might need just a little bit of it here so would you or should you come to Southern lombo Cuda particularly I think you should there's there's a lot here to offer uh it's a lot of value some great scenery some

great beaches um some great food fresh fish is outstanding um and pretty much everyone I know who comes here get something out of it you know it's really really a good place we just have to uh perhaps rejig our sort of expectations a little bit as far as um warmth goes with some of the some of

the locals um but yeah I'd come again that's about it for this one the next one will come from patang B again I'm on the ferry tomorrow as always I hope you're well and happy in life and uh doing the things you want to do all right we see it
