Welcome to this tutor to youu sociology topic video on education. In this video, we're going to look at conservative education policies between 2015 and 2024. Since winning the general election in 2015, conservative governments in the UK have introduced significant changes to the education system. Most legislation focused on further promoting academization, increasing vocational education, raising

standards, and addressing social mobility. While some changes aim to tackle inequality, others have been criticized for perpetuating disparities within the education system. In this video, we're going to look at some of the key initiatives that were put forward by the Conservative government and provide some critical evaluations of these policies. Whilst many of the policies that we will

discuss were actually formed by the coalition government in 2010 to 2015, the conservative government of 2015 continued with the expansion ofmies and multi-ac academy trusts. Following the 2010mies act, the drive to convert schools tomies continued and the government encouraged schools to join multi-ac academy trusts to share resources and expertise. This increasingly marginalized local

authority maintains schools providing them with fewer resources and autonomy. Although introduced earlier, the pupil premium also received renewed emphasis under conservative policies. Schools were given extra funding for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to close the attainment gap and they were required to report how this funding was spent and its impact on students progress.

This was introduced through new measures such as progress 8 and attainment 8. Additionally, the EBAC became a performance measure requiring students to take a core set of academic subjects including English, maths, science, history or geography and a modern language.
