Welcome to Robert Hercz. Robert is the son of Imre Hercz, a Hungarian Norwegian Jew who was deported to Auschwitz in May 1944 at the age of 15. There, large parts of his family were killed, including his mother, before Imre himself survived and was later sent to, among others, Dachau. After the war, he came to Norway, became a doctor and
was for many years an active voice in the debate about anti-Semitism and human dignity. Robert himself grew up with this story close to him and he has chosen to carry it on. He is involved in the Jewish community in Norway, including as president of Ben Britt Norgeslosen and in the work with the Anti-Semitism Fund. And an important and personal an important and
personal part of what he does is that he often travels down to Auschwitz. There he meets Norwegian schoolchildren on memorial visits and talks to them about what the place actually means, about the family's history and why it is still important to remember. Welcome Robert. Thank you very much. It is very important work that you are doing. Could we perhaps start with that? How
long have you been doing this traveling down to Laurswitz with young people and telling about this place? Eh I am a volunteer eh unpaid for active peace trips eh when they have school children visiting there on theme trips then eh I meet them and talk to them about what they have experienced. eh Put eh what they have experienced in
perspective. I talk a little about a Norwegian Holocaust. I talk about my family. I give them a face to hang their stories on. And I try to answer questions. And that is what I experience as important. And the feedback I also get from both students and teachers and principals is that this is incredibly important work.
