The Data Science Revolution

I'm Tim O'Reilly. I'm the founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media. Um, we were one of the earliest companies to highlight the the rise of big data. Uh, I started talking a lot about the importance of of data back, you know, 10 12 years ago, uh, in in sort of thinking about web companies and what made them succeed.

And, you know, I used the the idea that that data was going to be the Intel inside of the next generation of computer applications. That that's turned out to be the case. Uh my company now runs a a a conference on data called Strata um the business of of big data uh um but I'm here with a set of people who

um you know from a range of companies that are involved in this big data space. I'm gonna ask them to uh each to after I sort of mention them by name introduce themselves very briefly uh what they do uh what their company does and then we'll go into a freeranging discussion of the transformative power

of data. We'd like to uh you know talk among ourselves for a good part of the session. Uh but this is a small room and so I I think it'd be great if you guys have questions that are raised just become part of the conversation. We'll have a formal Q&A at the end, but if we
