So, in this video, I'm going to be teaching you everything you need to know about running GMV Max ads on TikTok Shop. When to start running ads, when to stop running ads, how to scale, and how to understand the fundamentals of how GMV Max works. First off, what is GMV Max? GMV Max is TikTok Shop's automated
ad engine. TikTok itself goes through all your available content, whether it's from your handle, your marketing account, your official account, your affiliate content, and handpicks the content that it thinks is going to perform the best on the platform. This is completely different than Meta and other ads platforms, such as AppLovin and Snapchat, where historically, and
even till today, the algorithm asks you to upload the videos that you think will be successful on the platform, and you could put up to 50 videos in one ad campaign or in one ad set, and the algorithm will test each one, and basically spend the ones on the videos that it thinks it's the most promising.
Here, the brand is actually allowing the algorithm to fully automate that process, to start the videos it thinks that it's going to do well with, and stop the videos that it thinks it's not going to do well with anymore. Now, one of the main questions we get about GMV Max is when do we start? So, TikTok's
recommendation, as per the account reps that we work with, is that an account should have a minimum of 50 videos before they start GMV Max. My agency, The Media Elephant, we do not start GMV Max for any account until there are 250 videos in the algorithm that we could pull from. And the reason for that is
simple. Just having 50 videos could be enough, but it's usually not enough because you need 50 pieces of good quality content to really push a brand on TikTok Shop. And we've seen that for every 250 videos you have on the platform, usually about one in five or 20% end up being good quality content.
