Hello, this is engineer Ángel Suárez speaking. In this video, we're going to determine the calculation of support reactions for a statically determinate beam with point loads, as shown here. Here we have the following beam where at point A we have a fixed support that generates two reactions, one on the y-axis and the other on the x-axis. At point B,
we have a movable support that generates a single reaction around its axis, in this case, around the i-axis. The beam is loaded with point loads of 10 kilograms-force. From point A, at a distance of 1.3 meters, we have a load of 10 kilograms-force. From point A, at a distance of 1.3 + 1.6, which
equals 2.9 meters, we have the second load of 10 kilograms-force. And from point A, at a distance of 1.3 + 1.6 + 2.1, which equals 5 meters, we have the third gravitational load, which is equal to 10 kilograms-force. These are the point loads that the beam has, and to determine the support reactions, the first thing we'll do is... The next step is to
draw the free body diagram. A free body diagram is simply a figure that shows all the forces acting on the structure, including its reactions. In this case, the free body diagram for the beam shown is as follows. If you look here, we have all the loads acting on the structure, its reactions: rx, the reaction on the
x-axis, is real, and the reaction on the y-axis is real, which is the reaction on the y-axis instead of the y-axis. If you notice, since it's not a lateral force or a force on the x-axis, the reaction on the x-axis will be equal to zero. Therefore, we won't determine it. This means that as
