Chapter number four is Gases, States of Matter, Part One, and in that we will discuss gases. This is the first topic of the chapter on gases. And this is the Kinetic Molecular Theory. See, matter exists in different states, and the major states are gas, liquid, solid, and apart from this, there is plasma, Bohr, Einstein, condensate, and
liquid crystal. Kinetic Molecular Theory. A scientist named Bernoulli, Daniel Bernoulli, proposed this theory in 1738, so that the behavior of gases could be explained. Remember that theories are explanations. So, this Bernoulli theory, Kinetic Molecular Theory, was initially presented by him, but this theory was later developed by different scientists, and Klaus was Rudolf Klaus.
He developed this theory in 1857, and in a major development, he published it. Then more scientists came, in which you can see one or two big scientists. You can see the names Maxwell and Boldtmann. Maxwell and Boldtmann used this theory and developed it further and explained the motion of the molecule i.e. translational motion, vibrational
motion and apart from this, rotational motion. Then Vander Waal modified the ideal gas equation and made it applicable for real gases. The major question of this theory is what is the
composition of the gases, that is, what are gases, what are they made of, so the theory says that all the gases have small particles in them and these particles are called molecules or atoms, that is, incompressible. Here you are seeing a word incompressible which means that like this is a molecule, this molecule itself is solid, that is, it is
