So let's begin. This is what chapter by chapter, verse by verse would look like, but today I can't go in-depth in Matthew 1 because I would have to spend time in the genealogy, which I don't have time, but I'll give you a summation. Lord willing in the future, if God gives me health and holiness provision, we will

go chapter by chapter, but you need to pray cuz my trust is in the Holy Spirit to teach through me and give me wisdom because I can't do it without it. I'm being honest. But our trust is in him. Matthew begins by giving us a genealogy of the Lord Jesus Christ. That's not his

biological genealogy. What do I mean? It's the line of Joseph, Jesus' legal father, not his biological father. Matthew affirms the virgin conception and birth of our Lord. So Joseph did not sire Jesus cuz he didn't have sex with Mary. Matthew affirms that our Lord Jesus was conceived of the virgin, the blessed holy virgin mother, Theotokos,

by the Holy Spirit, and we believe on the basis of early church tradition, she remained a virgin throughout her life for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, point being, Matthew 1:18-25 clearly affirm Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin. She conceived him as a virgin, gave birth to

him as a virgin. Clear as day. But Matthew gives us a genealogy that's Joseph's genealogy, okay? Now, how does the gen- genealogy justify the Lord Jesus' physical descendancy? Crystals, I'm glad you're here cuz I wanted to comment. I will. Matthew is clear this is Joseph's genealogy, and he's equally clear Joseph did not father Jesus. So

why would he give us Joseph's genealogy? Because Joseph adopts Jesus Christ, making him his legal son and legal heir. And this is why, Lord willing in future sessions, I'll go in-depth, if the Lord allows me to, on the genealogy, its implication, right? And how Matthew gives you the legal line of Jesus, that

legally Joseph accepts Jesus as his legal son, making him his legal heir. So, this is Jesus' lineage legally. Legal line. Because Joseph legally accepts Jesus as his son by naming him. We'll get into that. But Matthew also says that there are 14 generations from Abraham Let me get it to you. To David,

and then 14 generations from David to the Babylonian exile. And then 14 generations from Babylonian captivity to the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here, Matthew 1:17. Why 14? Because if you compare Matthew's genealogy with the genealogies given in Genesis 5 or in 1 Chronicles, if you compare the genealogies given in 1 Chronicles, a lot

of chapters devoted to genealogies. If you want to cure insomnia, read Chronicles, it'll put you to sleep. Genealogy after genealogy after genealogy. Why such an emphasis on genealogy? Because the Jews realize, by revelation of God, vitally important to prove your lineage. And lineage was of utmost importance to prove that this one is the Messiah son of

David. This one is the Messiah son of David. So, Matthew condenses the genealogies. He skips generations. He skips generations. Because both in Hebrew and Greek, to say father of or son of or begot doesn't mean necessarily the direct son of someone. It can mean the descendant of Abraham, the descendant of David, or

David the ancestor of Jesus, Abraham the ancestor of Jesus. So, in the genealogies, Matthew is condensing the genealogies to give you three generations of 14. Three generations of 14. Now, I have to come back and explain because in one of the lists, it seems like he only mentions 13 generations. So, doesn't Matthew know how to count? Lord willing

in time, but I need you to listen. This is important. For the Jews, genealogy was of utmost importance because you'd have to prove your lineage. You could not be the high priest if you could not prove that you are a physical descent of of Aaron. You could not be the Messiah or king if you could not prove your

physical lineage to David. So, they knew genealogies was of utmost importance. Today, we could care less. Right? So, Matthew 1:17, "Therefore, all the generations from Abraham to David are 14 generations, and from David to the deportation to the Babylonian captivity to Babylon, 14 generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ, 14

generations." He gives you three generations of 14. But, why 14? BECAUSE TO GET THAT NUMBER, he has to omit specific names in the genealogy. So, sometimes, he skips a son and mentions a grandson. So, when he says David the father of X, well, X is not the direct son of David, but the descendant of

David. Why 14? You need to listen. Why 14? You need to listen. Let me give you a passage from our Lord. He says, "Those whom the Lord will appoint to be scribes, teachers of the kingdom of God, if the Holy Spirit has called you to be a teacher, he will teach you and instruct you and

illuminate you to go deep to find the gems that the Holy Spirit has hid, has placed in scripture that he will enable you as he moves you to deeper reflection to discover for the glory of Jesus Christ." Listen here, Matthew 13:52. Please listen. This is for your benefit. Matthew 13:52. And he, the Lord, said to

him, "Therefore, every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household." Now, watch. "Who brings out of his treasure things new and old?" Did you catch it? If you are a scribe appointed by the Holy Spirit, a scribe is a teacher of the scriptures, basically a

scriptural theologian, a lawyer. And if the spirit has appointed you, the spirit will then teach you to dig up treasures that are hidden in [clears throat] this treasure chest called scripture. Are you guys listening? Don't worry about it, Lena. You just help me by listening. Levy, because dogs like you need to be

cussed at cuz you're trash and garbage. That's your language, so I'm speaking your language, stooping to your level. All right. Now, why did our Lord say, "Bring out treasures new and old?" Because he's talking about old and new covenants. In other words, the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. So, a spirit-filled

teacher, and I pray I'm one of them, will be moved by the spirit to go deeper into the text and by the spirit's illumination find the treasures the spirit has placed there to see how miraculous the Bible is. See, right there. So, every scribe appointed by the spirit to explain the rule of God will

be moved by the spirit to go deep and find the depth and beauty and supernatural structure of scripture to see how miraculous it is. And I pray I'm one of them for the glory of Christ, not for my praise. So, why then why then would Matthew condense the generations genealogy into three groups of 14

generations when there are more? Upon reflection, certain theologians discovered I didn't discover this cuz either you'll discover it directly from the spirit reading scripture or from the wisdom from others whom the spirit will use to illuminate you. It turns out that David's name in Hebrew, David, has the numerical value of 14. Now, I don't know

if you know this. I need you to listen. And Chris, if you're out here, the numerical value of David's name in Hebrew is 14. David. Now, let me explain what I mean. In Hebrew, each letter represents a number. Aleph would be one, right? Aleph would be one. So, when you total the numerical value of David's

name, it's 14. So, Matthew, being a Jew, knowing Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek, knows that the numerical value of David's name is 14. So, he condenses the generations into 14 generations to bring out the point that Jesus is the David par excellence. And this is a form of Jewish interpretation. In a future session, cuz I've done past sessions on

this, in rabbinic Judaism, you will find certain principles of exegesis of hermeneutics. You have what's called pshat, right? You have remez, you have sod, and midrash rash. Pshat, midrash rash, remez, sod, forming an acronym acronym called pardes. These are the different ways that the Jews would interpret scripture. Sod, s o d, sod, is finding

the mystical interpretation of the text. One mystical way or interpretation is called gematria. Gematria is finding the mystical meaning behind the names by deciphering their numerical value, right? Coding the letters of the text by looking at the numerical value of the letters and making connections with other words to see the coded message put

there by the Holy Spirit. So, Matthew, you see now Matthew knows his Bible. Matthew knows Jewish exegesis of the Hebrew scriptures. Matthew would know Aramaic, Hebrew, he'd know Greek and Latin cuz he's a tax collector. He's well literate. So, he's now using gematria. You got it? Because he's bringing out the numerical value of

David's name. David, David. And since it's 14, he now groups the genealogies into three groups of 14 to show you that Jesus is the David par excellence, the greater David. Everyone got it? So, the Holy Spirit placed these nuggets gems there in order for scribes appointed by the Spirit to be moved by the Spirit to

uncover the depth of scripture. So, this is why he has 14. BUT YOU WOULD NOT KNOW that unless the Holy Spirit illuminates you to discover that. So, that's the reason. But I can't go any more deeper now. The genealogy of our Lord. Here it is. He begins Matthew 1:1. He begins with the genealogy and it's not even his

physical genealogy, it's the genealogy of Joseph, not of the Blessed Mother. We'll talk about that. How do we know it's not Jesus' physical genealogy? We'll get there. But notice he says, "The book of the generations genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." Now, why does he single out he's the son of David, the son of

Abraham? Because he's announcing that Jesus is the fulfillment of the promises. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant and the promises given to Abraham that in Abraham's seed all the families of the earth will be blessed. And he's also indicating he's also the heir of the promises and the covenant God made to David. That's why. Why

Abraham? Because it is in Jesus that the blessings and promises and the covenant Abraham are perfectly fulfilled and no one else. Why David? Cuz it is Jesus who fulfills the covenant and oath that God made to David. He is the fulfillment of the Abrahamic blessings and covenant and the Davidic covenant. That's why.

Everyone got it? And if you really want me to go in depth, I will show you that one of the names of the Messiah is David. Did you know that? The Old Testament and even the rabbis acknowledge one of Jesus' names, the Messiah's name, cuz we know Jesus the Messiah, one of the Messiah's names is

David. He's called David. So, how much in depth do you want me to go? Cuz if I go in depth, I'm going to have to do a part two, Lord willing, on this. You want me to go in really in depth? Break down the genealogies into three groups of 14? Because David's name has the

numerical value of he in Hebrew 14. So, what is Matthew trying to show you? He is the David, THE GREATER DAVID, the one that David typified. David Park Salons. Where does the Bible say that one of the names of the Messiah, who we know to be Jesus, is David? Here you go. Let's break it down. Now, watch here.

Okay, now you got to pay attention or you're not going to catch it. All right. Jeremiah 23:5-6. Watch here. Jeremiah 23:5-6. "Behold, the days are coming," declares Yahweh, "when I will raise up for David" Now, notice, God is not saying I will raise up David, right? "I will raise up for David a righteous branch." I'm going

to bring a branch from his roots, from the tree of David. Notice it's not David he's raising up, but a branch, a descendant of David. And this branch of David, from the tree of David, from the family line of David, he will reign as king and prosper, and do justice and righteousness in the land. In his days,

Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is his name. Now, notice his name, by which he will be called, Yahweh our righteousness. Did you guys catch it? A physical descendant of David, who will bear the name of God. His name is called Yahweh our righteousness. Yod Heh Vav Heh, or Yod

Heh Vav Heh Sidkenu. Yahweh Sidkenu. I have a hard time pronouncing English. THAT'S HIS NAME. HIS NAME IS Yahweh our righteousness. His name is Immanuel, God with us. His name is Jesus, Jehovah's salvation. That's his name. This physical descendant, he will bear and embody the name Yahweh our righteousness, cuz he's the one who

makes us righteous and just. BUT IT'S NOT DAVID, RIGHT? It's not David. I will raise up for David. We got it? For David. And this is one of the passages that the rabbis quoted saying, he will bear the name of the Lord. He will be named after Lord. They even admitted it. Okay. But now, watch what Jeremiah goes

on to say later. Same Jeremiah, he then says later on, Jeremiah 30, verses 8 to 9. Same Jeremiah, and it will be in that day, declares Yahweh of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck. I will deliver you from Babylonian captivity, and will tear off your bonds, and strangers will no longer make them

their slaves. Now, watch verse 9, though. But they shall serve, they shall be a slave, they shall serve Yahweh their God and David their king, whom I'll raise up for them. Okay, wait. Jeremiah 30, verse 9, says that God is going to raise up David to rule. Here, Jeremiah 30, verse 9. BUT THEY SHALL BE

A SLAVE, they will serve Yahweh their God and David their king, whom I'll raise up for them. But hold on. In Jeremiah 23, verse 5, it's a branch of David that God raises up, not David. Here, Jeremiah 23:5. Not David. Behold, the days are coming, declares Yahweh, when I will raise up for David a

righteous branch, and he'll reign as king. Now, HOLD ON. IS GOD GOING TO RAISE UP DAVID TO reign or a branch of David? Here, Jeremiah 23:5. And here's Jeremiah 30:9. COMPARE. BUT, THEY SHALL BE A SLAVE TO YAHWEH THEIR GOD, Jeremiah 30:9, and David their king, whom I will raise up for them. But, later on, both

before and after he says, "Behold, the days are coming, declares Yahweh, when I will raise up for David, not David, a righteous branch, and he'll reign as king." Jeremiah 33:15-16. So, both before Jeremiah 30:9 and after, he repeats the promise OF RAISING UP FROM DAVID, for David, a physical branch, not David. Jeremiah 33:15-16.

In those days and at that time, I will cause a righteous branch of David to branch forth, not David, BUT A BRANCH OF David I will raise up. And he shall do justice and righteousness on Earth. In those days, Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell in security. And this is the

name by which she, the city, will be called, cuz the city will be named after the king that lives in it. And who's the king that will live in it? Yahweh is our righteousness. Did everyone get it now? So, according to Jeremiah, who is God going to raise up? David or a branch of

David who will be called Yahweh our righteousness, and who will reign in Jerusalem, and the Jerusalem will be named after her king? And who's her king? The branch from David, because he's called Yahweh our righteousness, the city will be called Yahweh our righteousness, cuz it'll bear the name of her king. It's not David, but the

branch of David who is Yahweh our righteousness in flesh. So then Jeremiah also said, "I will raise up David their king." Why? Because there the David that God raises up is not the physical David who died, but the physical son of David who is a type of David WHO DAVID WAS A picture of. So what are the names of the

branch? And ask the rabbis. will know this. You know one of the names of Messiah is branch, Semach. And where did they get it from? Jeremiah 23:5-6. There it says a branch, Semach. Jeremiah 23:5 and Jeremiah 33:15. And the rabbis say one of the names of Mashiach is Semach, branch. Cuz they're getting it

from here. YOU GET IT? EXACTLY, RICARDO. Jesus is David. He's Israel. One of his names is Israel. Isaiah 49 addresses on it. Jesus is also Yahweh our righteousness, Emmanuel, with us God. Jesus, the name itself is Jehovah salvation. HE HAS ALL THESE beautiful names and more. Okay, do we get it now? Okay, so now do you see Matthew who

knows his Bible would know that one of the names of Messiah is David, would know that David is a picture of Christ. So now, knowing that the numerical value of David's name is 14, condenses the genealogies in three groups of 14. So did you not learn Chris as everyone else? One of the names of

Messiah is David, David. So you see what Matthew is doing? He's a scribe filled with the spirit, appointed to discover these gems, these diamonds, treasure that the spirit has embedded there in scripture only to have his servants discover them to show you how rich and deep and reckless the Bible is. You see?

You see what Matthew is saying by the Holy SPIRIT INSPIRING HIM? OH, DAVID one of the names Messiah. So David's a picture of Messiah AND HE'S THE GREATER DAVID like he's the greater Solomon and the greater Israel. He's all of them but he's THE PERFECT VERSION OF THEM. They were sinners, he's flawless. And David's

name has the numerical value 14. So now I'm going to group three groups of 14 generations. That all makes sense, right? See how much background information, how much you got to break down in order to do justice to the chapters of the Bible? Imagine we did chapter by chapter verse by verse on

Matthew. We wouldn't finish it till the next 50 years. You know that, right? Next 50 years. It would take us 50 years to finish 28 chapters of Matthew. Not lying. Can you imagine at the rate we're going? If I go Matthew 1, Matthew 2, Matthew 3, we'll be finishing Matthew in heaven. Lord willing we get there by his grace

and mercy. But once in heaven we won't need Bible study. Hey guys, let's have Bible study. They'll say, "Man, are you crazy? Get out of here, dude. We're in heaven, dude. Why do I want to listen to you? Here's Paul. Here's Peter. Here's John. You know, when we're on Earth we had no

choice but listen to you cuz that's all we had. In heaven now we got Paul and Peter and John and Moses. Get lost, buddy." Oh gee, that's how it is, huh? That's how it's like now? It's got to be like that? When on in heaven you on Earth you're all listening to me. Now in

heaven I'm a nobody, huh? It's got to be like that? All right.
