hello everyone and welcome back to our channel if you haven't had subscribed yet please do today we'll be discussing drug metabolism drug metabolism will be divided into three parts by myself we prepared and we're going to be presenting the slides for this chapter by referring to four's principle of medicinal chemistry the eighth edition

in short we're going to be starting off with an opening scenario and then move on to the lecture material and provide few examples to help you better understand the material yh a 32 year old female with a history of chronic schizophrenia presented for a routine follow-up visit to the behavioral health clinic her psychotic

symptoms had been well controlled on respiraton three milligrams daily at her previous appointment a month ago yh had reported being depressed so her psychiatrist initiated a trial of peroxide 20 milligrams daily as treatment as the pharmacist was interviewing yh for medication history he noticed that there was a resting tremor in her left

hand yh acknowledged that it had first appeared within the last few weeks she also stated that she was just starting to feel less depressed the reference of this case was taken from the fourth medicine principle book to introduce what drug metabolism is you have to know that first of all drugs were first developed and prescribed

under the old paradigm that one dose fits all which largely ignored the fact that human beings are genetically and metabolically different resulting in variable responses to drugs and even drugs within the same dose drugs can no longer be regarded as chemically stable entities which elicit a certain desired pharmacological response after which they are excreted
