Cyberattack hits hundreds of French supermarkets as analyst warns of wider risks

A cyber attack has hit hundreds of supermarkets across France, sending fridge temperatures soaring to 50° C. This hack sparked fires in several stores and left fresh and frozen food spoiled overnight. Some of the country's biggest food retailers were targeted. >> Um unfortunately it's not unprecedented. Perhaps we're talking about like very rare scale here. Uh but what we're talking about is you know um we've been hearing for decades now about those quote smart appliances and devices. They are connected to the internet and how this happens is simply you've got infrastructure or equipment that is

connected to the internet and then a vulnerability is found and there is a remote attack. uh you know people are able to remotely uh log into some equipment and trigger all kinds of different uh features. So so that that it's it's the it's the new reality of having this connected equipment. >> Who could be behind this? I mean is it

like a 15-year-old sitting at home doing some hacking or would it be a state sponsored hack? >> It it it could be both. Yeah, it could be both. But the the timing is interesting considering the protests uh ongoing in France. Uh but it's very hard to speculate at this point. There has been no information uh and nobody has
