The Depressing Psychology of Deep Thinkers

There was once a young woman named Cassandra. Said to be so beautiful that even the gods couldn't look away. Apollo himself fell in love with her. Some stories say that he desired her. Others say that he wanted her devotion. Either way, he made her an offer that no mortal could refuse. He granted her the gift of prophecy.

Like many deep thinkers today, Cassandra could sense what was coming long before anyone else around her noticed. She didn't just react to events. She recognized patterns forming [music] beneath the surface, consequences before causes, endings before beginnings. She saw disasters before they unfolded, betrayals hidden behind smiles, then predicted the fall of an entire

civilization while its leaders laughed at her and called her insane. But Cassandra refused Apollo. And gods do not take rejection lightly. Unable to take back the gift he had already [music] given her, Apollo twisted it instead. He cursed Cassandra so that always she would see the future and tell everyone about it, but no one would ever believe

her. Her visions would be perfect, but [music] her warnings would always be ignored. She would watch reality march towards catastrophe knowing there was nothing she could do about it but get lost in her deepest, darkest thoughts. To know more than others can often feel like a blessing and a curse, a gift and

a burden. You notice patterns that others overlook. You recognize problems long before they're acknowledged. Yet slowly and quietly, your mind gets crushed under the weight of truths it has no [music] way to resolve. Are all deep thinkers doomed to Cassandra's fate? Or is there a way to defeat the god Apollo and learn to carry that awareness
