Do you want me to show you that Satan, in trying to usurp God and replace Him, does so in a way that resembles God’s Tri-Unity? Watch. “And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads.” He has ten horns because, later on, we are told these are ten kings who will swear allegiance to

him. Seven heads—why? John explains the seven heads. One meaning refers to the city on seven hills, which is a reference to the Roman Empire. This is why many believe this king will come out of the Roman Empire. The debate is whether this will be from the western part or the eastern part. “On his horns were ten diadems,

and on his heads were blasphemous names. And the beast which I saw was like a leopard.” Here, John is referencing Daniel 7. Daniel 7 is a picture of something worse. Though Daniel 7 had its own fulfillment, it foreshadowed something even more dreadful. “The beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear,

and his mouth was like the mouth of a lion.” This means the beast combines the kingdoms, power, and authority of all the prior kingdoms. He is the epitome of evil—so evil he makes them look mild in comparison. With me so far? Now follow me. Watch how this beast, a human ruler, mimics the resurrection. Pay attention.
