If you're using the Pinterest Instagram claim feature to repost your content to Instagram, there's a major update and I am so excited to share it with you. I've actually hesitated telling people to autopublish their content to Pinterest and to do it in a more strategic way because it was lacking one of the things

that Pinterest just released with this new update, which we are going to get into. Truly, this new feature set within the Instagram claim functionality is going to change the way your content performs on Pinterest. So, let's actually first talk about why it matters. Number one, Instagram content publishing from Instagram through the claim feature to Pinterest has always

just kind of felt hit or miss because your content once upon a time used to link back to Instagram. I don't understand the user experience there or the customer journey why we would want to send them back to Instagram. It just made for a lot more leg work of having to update the content especially if you

wanted to promote a product or a blog post or a lead magnet or whatever. Autopublishing would also flood your feed especially if you were posting carousels on Instagram and they were importing over to Pinterest. It used to actually look a lot like this where you can see inside of the pink box all the

different little slides that go with the Pinterest for authors carousel. It's not great. Okay, that version was not great. Each individual carousel page linked back to that one Instagram post and the customer journey and the overall experience was just lost. This update finally closes the gap for creators who are autopublishing their content from

Instagram to Pinterest and want to keep the journey of their users seamless. Hi. Hello. Sorry to jump scare you. It's the day after filming this video and I had a little thing that I wanted to insert in before we publish and it is basically what I have on my screen right now. I went and tested the functionality

of importing the carousels and it works for more than five slides. So, previously you could only do the five slides if you build a carousel inside of Pinterest. With Instagram, I just uploaded a seven slide carousel and all seven slides came over just fine. However, one little glitch that is still happening is that my account is still

autolinking to Instagram instead of to my claim domain. So, I have put in a request for someone to look at this. So hopefully by the time you guys get this feature and it's fully rolled out and functional, it's actually pointing to the claim domain like we discussed in this video like Pinterest has promised

us the update is going to include and all is right in the world. So that is it. I'm going to include in the proper section where I talked about the carousel the carousel example or we might end up just putting it on the screen here over me right now. So okay. All right. Goodbye.

Let's get to update number one, which is direct linking to your claim domain. You heard me. It's here. I'm so excited. Any of your autopublished Instagram posts are going to actually link to your claim domain instead of to Instagram, which I was sort of hinting at up to this point. This is so huge because it takes people

at least to your homepage. Now, I will say you will want to update that full URL from your homepage to let's say a product URL or a blog URL versus from Instagram to those URLs. So, there is still a little bit of editing going on, but at least we're getting people to your front door and we can obviously

update the post to get them to the table. So now every pin click turns into an opportunity for traffic directly to your website. And this also gives you the ability to publish more content each week without having to do it for Pinterest directly. You're already creating on Instagram or if you are already creating on Instagram, you can

now create on Instagram and publish to Pinterest and it can link to your claim domain. This is also great for the entire claiming of your content, right? So the content comes over from Instagram, it removes the watermark, it mutes the music, links to your website, now your claim domain. Now all of that

analytics data instead of just being filtered into Instagram, you should be able to see it within your claim domain filtering as well. So instead of just looking at either all the data in your analytics insights um tab, you can you could filter out Instagram or you could look at all data. Now, it's just

obviously you're going to be looking at all data, but if you wanted to see all of that data for the claim domain piece from Instagram, like you don't have to filter it out now. It's just all in one. So, this truly turns your Instagram content into not only engagement drivers on Pinterest, but traffic drivers on

Pinterest as well. Okay, let's get to update number two, which is keyword filtering. Now, a word of caution. As of filming this video, this functionality is only available on desktop. It's no big deal because most of us are business owners and we're working from our desktop computers or our laptops anyways. So, the keyword filtering

functionality is only available on desktop for the Instagram claim feature. So, log onto your desktop, go to your settings, go to link to Pinterest in that menu bar on the left, and then you will see the Instagram section if it's claimed up at the top. In this section, it should look like this where you can

see it's autopublishing is on. You can see the board that it's going to publish to. Then, there's a little section at the bottom that says keywords or hashtags or phrases. In there, you'll notice start, scale, succeed. I just put this in there as an example, but if you want to filter out any specific posts

from autopublishing to Pinterest, this is a really great way to do that. So, some use cases for this might be if you're an influencer or you're doing brand campaigns and you have not included Pinterest as a channel and you're not getting paid for posting your content on Pinterest, then you might want to exclude any Instagram posts from

autopublishing to Pinterest by inserting a hashtag, a phrase, or a word all separated by commas inside of that box. So those posts will be ignored when you publish them. This is especially great if you do create lifestyle content and you don't necessarily want your lifestyle content on your Pinterest account. I could see this being a really

good use case for someone like me. I just recently started posting more lifestyle content on my um Heather Ferris Co. Instagram account and I don't necessarily want that content on my Heather Ferris Co. Pinterest account. So, for me, I could see this actually being a really good thing. I can still share that kind of communitydriven

content on Instagram, but it doesn't have to show up on Pinterest cuz it's really irrelevant. Another reason you might want to exclude keywords or phrases is if you are doing anything that is super limited time, that won't actually make any sense for Pinterest. So any sales, anything that's like 24 hours, even like a week or less, might

not make a lot of sense on Pinterest, unless you're running ads. In this case, the keyword exclusion might be a really good option for you. This truly gives you more overall control over the content that's getting autopublished to Pinterest without you having to manually manage it, which who has the time? Update number three to this new

functionality is carousel conversion. I was just referencing this. Remember the photo I showed you with the pink box? You can see it again here where these posts, these slides came over as individual Pinterest pins, but they were one Instagram carousel post. Now, that's annoying and we don't want that. And Pinterest hurt us and now they are

automatically bringing over Instagram carousels and turning them into carousels on Pinterest as well. Now, what this does is it really helps to keep all of that one story in one place so people can follow along from start to finish [clears throat] and they don't need to pop around, which they would never do anyways to all these

different slides to see all of it. And they wouldn't need to then go to Instagram to then see the same thing there either. Your storytelling posts don't get segmented out anymore. They will be one nice carousel autoposted to Pinterest in one piece direct linked to your website. Overall, carousels do tend to provide some better engagement

because people are having to scroll through them. And all engagement on Pinterest, if you watch my Pinterest engagement video, is good engagement. Obviously, we want to aim for those pin clicks, those outbound clicks, those saves, but these carousel posts do have a high probability of being saved because the type of content most people

put inside of their carousel posts. User experience means better conversions overall. So, thank you Pinterest for at least giving us these three new updates. So, let's talk about what this means for your strategy. Previously to me filming this video, my recommendations were to turn off autopublishing to from Instagram to Pinterest. Now, because of these new updates, I am now

advising anyone who wants to autopublish from Pinterest to go ahead and turn that functionality on and then just go in and make those minor edits to your account, to your individual pins. You can create still a secret board where you autopublish everything into a secret board. You edit everything and then you manually move it out. That might still

be a really good workflow for the majority of people. But if you do want to just let it go live to a public board and edit it later, you can also do that. I would suggest updating the link to be the actual final link of whatever it is you're talking about in the post. For

example, if it were me and I was talking about the Pinterest for authors, I would link that to the blog post Pinterest for authors instead of my homepage. I don't want people to click on Instagram posts, what were Instagram posts, now Pinterest pins, and just land on my homepage and then have to search on my website to

find that content. The user experience is going to end there. So, you will want to update those links to be the final destination. This really decreases your workload just slightly. You don't now need to turn off autopublishing, import the content manually and schedule it. You can literally just update the description and the link and save it to

a board and that's it. And obviously your audience can now find your content across platforms and you will feel like you are everywhere or they will feel like you're everywhere because they're seeing your content in multiple different places. So let's just briefly turn on this functionality together. So I'm going to throw some images up on the

slide as I talk. So what you want to do is go to the carrot in the top right hand corner of your screen. Click the settings in this pop-own window and then on the left hand menu you want to click on the word that says link to Pinterest. Inside of here you will see your

Instagram claim settings. Either you will see the settings because they are claimed already or you will see the button that says claim Instagram and you will then want to go through the process of claiming. Now once you have claimed your Instagram account inside of Pinterest, you have a few options. it is going to automatically create that

social board for you. You are going to want to hide the social board or archive it. And you will want to create a board that is really strategic or choose from one of your other boards that is more broad in topic and strategic for your content to go inside of. For example, for my content, I put it in, for

example, my content from Instagram goes into a Pinterest marketing board called Pinterest marketing tips. That's because the majority of everything I create on my Instagram account is Pinterest marketing tips. So, for me, that works. You might want to create a more broad or generalized board that you might not already have. You could just turn the

social board into that more general board. Do not leave it with the name social, please. Also, make sure you give that board really good description. Add any keyword filtering options into the setting there if you want that. And then make sure you click the update button and you should be all set and ready to

go. Do make sure you check on your Instagram claiming functionality once every few months because sometimes it will disconnect and you will need to reconnect it. You usually will get an update on Pinterest whether in the business hub or when you log in it might do a little popup and tell you that you

need to reclaim your Instagram account. If that's the case, you can go through the same steps and it should just reconnect automatically. This only happens because sometimes Meta just disconnects the API allowance between platforms and you just have to reconnect them. It's the same thing with like auler tool for example. And that's it.

You have now fully connected your Instagram account. You've turned on autopublishing. Now, one of the most common questions that I get with this this tool, with this functionality with Pinterest, is should I let it autopost my old content? This is completely up to you. If you feel like you have content that is

really good, that would be really great to link back to your website, to your offers, to your blog posts, to your whatever your services, then I would say go ahead and autopublish it all. You might want to do it to a secret board, though, because you might want to get rid of some of that stuff if you're not

offering some of these things anymore. If you're not offering that sale anymore, if you've retired a product suite or an offer or whatever, then it might be in your best interest to just autopublish all of your past year of content to a secret board and then you can kind of filter through that manually

when you have time.
