My retirement portfolio is up over $60,000 since I was laid off 3 months ago. But, I think I'm taking too much risk. At first glance, the numbers look great. But, when I looked at my July update, I noticed one number that made me question whether my current 91% strategy still makes sense. Let me show
you what I'm talking about. If you're new here, I started documenting this journey after being laid off at 51. And back then, my retirement portfolio was about $815,000. So, let's take a look at where the portfolio ended for the month of July. The current balance in my retirement accounts, which includes my 401k and my
Roth IRA, is $435,500. And this is where the majority of my long-term investments are held, and we'll come back to this account in just a minute because this is where my biggest concern is. The brokerage account is currently worth $359,000. This is the account that will be important once my severance ends in
January. One of the advantages of this account is that I can access it before traditional retirement age if I need to. Let's talk about my health savings account next.
