You've probably already heard, VW, BMW or Mercedes-Benz, all German car giants are currently in a serious crisis, while in China, completely new brands are currently making huge profits, and one brand is at the forefront: BYYD. The Chinese automaker now sells the most electric and hybrid cars worldwide. In Thailand, for example, BYD gained a

40% market share in just one and a half years. In Singapore, one in five new cars sold is now a BYD, and in Brazil, BYD even achieves an incredible 72% market share. But what if this incredible success story is actually based primarily on gigantic lies? What if we told you that BYD's rise is one of the biggest

frauds in the automotive industry? and much of the supposed success is not what it seems. In fact, there are indications that BYD's rise and current situation are not the pure success story that is often presented. Therefore, let's take a closer look at China's largest car manufacturer, and we'll start with a truly shocking fact that has

hardly been reported so far: how BYD was able to grow so quickly. Officially, BYD's rise is always attributed to brilliant strategic decisions. It was said that the company had wisely focused early on affordable plug-in hybrids and built almost everything itself, from the semiconductors to the batteries. That sounds like a completely innovative and unique strategy.

However, the truth also includes the fact that BYD has engaged in massive industrial espionage, or rather, espionage is actually the completely wrong term here, because Western car companies like VW and others have been forced to open so-called joint venture companies in China for decades. These insights gave BYD access to knowledge that was actually top secret from its very inception. But

for BYD, this is just the absolute tip of the iceberg, because industrial espionage is present in virtually every economic dynasty in China. But BYYD has other, much more serious problems, especially when it comes to money. Because [music] the company would probably have gone bankrupt long ago if it weren't so massively supported by the Chinese state

. And we're not talking about small financial injections here. The Chinese state is keeping BYD alive almost single-handedly. For example, between 2015 and 2020 the company received around 4 billion euros in direct subsidies, and in fact these subsidies are continuing to increase. In 2022, it was already around 2.1 billion euros in just one year, and

[music] the whole thing is getting more and more absurd, because in some cases the government subsidies were even higher than the company's entire net profit, which in turn means that BYD is completely dependent on the launch. The Chinese state also gives BYD free huge building plots for factories, orders gigantic taxi fleets from the company every year, and allows

BYD to produce its cars for €4000 less than the competition. China isn't doing all this [music] out of kindness. The government's deliberate aim here is to use BYD as a kind of weapon to sabotage Western car brands and establish China as the automotive leader. One might think that BYD is in a wonderfully good financial position thanks to the many

government subsidies it has received . But that's not true. Quite the opposite. In fact, the company has so much debt that it could soon collapse completely. Officially, the Chinese automaker is only indebted to the equivalent of about 5.4 billion euros , but according to a report by the analysis firm GMT Research, the actual

debt is an unbelievable 42 billion euros. According to analysts, BYD is allegedly using sophisticated tricks to manage its debts, forcing its suppliers to accept electronic promissory notes instead of paying them with real money. For this purpose, the company even set up its own internal payment platform called Dilian . Specifically, this means that

when other companies supply car parts to BYD , the invoice amounts are initially only entered there. Payment is typically made 275 days later, but sometimes not until a year later. With this trick, BYD is effectively abusing thousands of small suppliers as a kind of interest-free bank. and shift the full risk of insolvency onto

them. As you now know, BYD is extremely heavily subsidized and yet has enormous debts. But at least the company is celebrating record sales worldwide, right? Well, actually, the figures are n't really accurate here either, if you look at them more closely, because on paper it looks like BYD can barely keep up with

delivering all its cars, because demand is so high. However, in reality, BYD contractually obliges its dealers, i.e., car dealerships and other sales partners, to take delivery of thousands of cars. Cars that BYD cannot sell on the regular market . The dealers then register these BYD new cars to dubious shell companies so that the cars

appear in the statistics as new cars sold. After that, these actually new cars are simply declared as used cars with 0 km. This trick, in turn, allows the cars to be shipped abroad without the extremely high customs duties that are normally levied on new cars. This means that BYYD obliges its partners to

buy cars from them, and these partners then sell the cars to their own shell companies, only to ultimately get them abroad cheaply as used cars . On paper, BYD has therefore sold a very large number of cars, and the partners then also save on the high customs duties when reselling them, in order to be able to offer BYD cars

very cheaply abroad . But now comes perhaps the most intense part. Despite the extreme trickery involved, which makes BYD cars very cheap, many of them still don't find any buyers in the end . The consequences can be seen in huge parking lots near Chinese metropolises like Hangchu. Drone footage from there shows enormous car graveyards where

hundreds of thousands of brand-new electric cars are simply left to rot. As if all that were n't bad enough, it's becoming increasingly clear that the quality of BYD cars is significantly worse than previously thought. Even though it is repeatedly claimed that Chinese cars can now compete with Western rivals, BOYD vehicles have a conspicuously large number of problems.

In September 2024, for example, almost 100,000 vehicles had to be recalled due to fatal defects in the steering column, as there was an acute risk of fire. In October 2025, 115,000 cars were recalled because the batteries were incorrectly sealed and water entered the cells while driving . And in November 2025, [music] 90,000 1,000 plug-in

hybrids experienced a defect in the battery cells, causing the vehicles to lose all drive power during a motorway journey and thus immediately becoming life-threatening for the driver . But the situation regarding BYD's ethical standards is even bleaker than regarding quality. While the company presents itself in Europe as a clean, exemplary enterprise, the working conditions at BYD are simply

terrible. For example, in Brazil. In December 2024, the Brazilian Ministry of Labor inspected the site, namely the construction site of the brand new BYD factory in Kamari. What the investigators found there, they officially classified as slave-like conditions and human trafficking. Hundreds of Chinese workers, illegally brought into the country, were toiling on the construction site.

BYYD subcontractors had systematically confiscated their passports to prevent any escape. The men had to post illegal bail and worked 14 hours a day, including weekends. The workers were also housed in completely filthy accommodations, and in some cases more than 30 people had to share a single bathroom. Incidentally, such incidents led to BYD being

officially blacklisted in Brazil in April 2026 for its use of forced labor. What happened next, however, clearly illustrates just how powerful BYD is. Just one week later, the chief Brazilian labor inspector who had uncovered this scandal was suddenly dismissed without explanation due to massive political pressure . As mentioned, all the machinations of BYD and the

Chinese state that we have listed so far serve the purpose of pushing Western car manufacturers out of the market. BYD and its Chinese partners are now capable of building over 30 million cars per year. However, current demand is below 19 million. The fact that BYD and others are now building about 11 million more cars a

year than they can actually sell is leading to a downward spiral. They have to offer ever higher discounts, and [music] that in turn is ruining them. The head of the Chinese car manufacturer Cherry even compares the whole thing to drinking poison to quench one's thirst. And this poison is now taking effect. Smaller Chinese manufacturers like Nita

Auto have already gone bankrupt, leaving behind billions in losses and huge mountains of debt. Even the giant BYD is faltering badly. In the first quarter of 2026, the Chinese market experienced a massive slump and BYD's worldwide sales plummeted by a breathtaking 56% [music] . The business model of simply producing mass quantities at any cost is
