Welcome back to the AI policy podcast. I'm Oluk Metha, director of the Wadwani AI Center here at CSIS. One of the persistent gaps in AI discussions is around what AI is good for. We've seen time and time again that Americans are skeptical about the value of AI technology and many struggle to articulate use cases they think are
clearly beneficial. This is happening at the same time as an unprecedented boom in venture capital funding especially for AI startups. And in those circles, there's enormous optimism about the potential of AI, especially to make progress in scientific fields like medicine. to help provide insight into these issues. I'm pleased to welcome Miriam Muika and Munjal Shaw to the
show. Miriam is the president of the General Catalyst Institute, an organization that works to build connections between the VC industry and government. She previously spent two years as the founding chief public policy officer there and has held senior positions across the public and private sectors, including serving as a senior adviser on public affairs and strategic
communications at the State Department under the Obama administration. Munjal is a CEO and co-founder of Hypocratic AI, a generative AI startup focused on building foundation models for healthcare. Before founding Hypocratic AI in 2023, he was a CEO and co-founder of another healthcare AI startup, Health IQ, which uses AI to analyze the health records of seniors
and determine the best Medicare Advantage plan for their health needs. He's founded two other companies over the course of his career, one of which was acquired by Google. Mjala and Miriam, welcome to the show. Um, Miriam, I'll I'll start >> Oh, of course. Um, I'm glad I could have you on. Um, Miriam, I'll start with you.
