dealing with our spending issues. So just a few weeks ago, the United States government went to the debt market to borrow money for 10 years and it cost them the highest rate since the 2007 financial crisis. In fact, they also went to borrow money for 30 years and they had to pay a rate of more than 5%
which is the highest interest rate going back all the way to 2001. Now, when the cost of long-term borrowing rises, it can put enormous pressure on a government's finances. And right now this cost has jumped to the highest level in 25 years. It's gotten to the point where the US Treasury Secretary Scott Besson has had to take the very
unusual action of directly intervening in the US bond market. He announced that the Treasury would at least double the size of its bond buyback program in an attempt to ease the pressure on long-term yields. This is a much bigger piece of news than most people realize because the Treasury may have just opened the door to a completely new way
of managing America's debt. One that could fundamentally change the value of money and have enormous consequences for stocks, bonds, gold, and virtually every major asset that we own. Now, on the day of this announcement, government bond yields did come down, but this was short-lived. Within 24 hours, bond yields had already retraced the entire
decline, climbing right back above where they were before Besson intervened. The bond market effectively just told the US Treasury Secretary this is not good enough. And it's telling us that this is only just the very beginning of some major moves by the US government. And in order to understand what's coming, we need to look at the force that is
