You asked for it, you got it! Today we're going to talk about one of the most successful pop bands of all time, but behind that success lies a great deal of darkness. This is the story of One Direction.

One Direction was formed in 2010 on the reality show X Factor, a talent show. Interestingly, the band hadn't actually formed before and participated together; rather, the five members—Harry Styles, Ian Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson— had been eliminated from the competition, and Nicole, one of the judges, suggested they return as a group. This detail is

crucial, so please keep it in mind for later. Although they finished in third place, Simon Cowell decided to give them a record deal with Saico Music, one of Sony's record labels, where he worked, so they could release their first album. So, Simon wasn't the creator of the band; he was the one who
