I am not sitting next to that. Get me a different seat immediately. This is unacceptable. Let me see what I can do. >> Ma'am, I'm not contagious. I'm just trying to get home. >> [music] >> I didn't ask for your commentary. I paid for a comfortable flight, not this. >> Ma'am, is there a problem with your seat
assignment? >> I do not want to sit beside this man. >> Ma'am, seating [music] is assigned by ticket purchase. I'm not able to move you unless there's an available seat. >> Then find [music] one. I shouldn't have to sit next to someone missing a leg and a dog on a 5-hour flight. [music] It's
uncomfortable for everyone around him, too, I'm sure. >> I've flown plenty of times before. >> Ma'am, we need to settle this. >> Nobody's [music] ever had a problem sitting next to me. >> Well, I'm not everyone. >> Someone needs to say something to her. >> Captain, we [music] have a situation in row 14. A passenger is refusing to sit.
Ma'am, please take your seat. The captain will be addressing the cabin shortly. >> Fine, but I want this noted somewhere. This is completely unprofessional. >> Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Before we depart, I want to address something happening in row 14, because I think everyone on this aircraft deserves to hear it. 15 years
ago, I was a young pilot flying a transport aircraft overseas. We came under heavy fire and lost an [music] engine mid-flight. The man in row 14, seat B, was my flight engineer that day. He held that aircraft together with his bare hands long enough for us to land safely, and he lost his leg doing it.
Every single person on every flight I've captained since is alive because of what he did that day, including me. I don't often share that story, [music] but today, I felt like this cabin needed to hear exactly who they were flying [music] next to. >> Thank you for your service. Just doing what needed to be done.
