Welcome back to Disturbed Reality. On the 29th of September 2026, the US Department of the Treasury effectively declared Ismael Zambada Sicairos, aka Mayito Flaco, and several of his high-ranking lieutenants as public enemy number one. Since taking over from his father, El Mayo Zambada, in leading the Zambada faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, they have
become one of Mexico's biggest violence generators, largely due to their war with Los Chapitos. The conflict between the Sinaloa Cartel's two main factions, Los Mayos and Los Chapitos, erupted following the kidnapping and transportation of Ismael Zambada by Joaquin Guzman Lopez, El Guero Moreno, the son of Joaquin Guzman El Chapo. According to the US Treasury,
Mayito Flaco has filled the leadership void left by his father's arrest, and he is now the head of Los Mayos, retaining command and control over the cartel faction. US authorities accuse him of directing criminal activities, including drug trafficking, murder, extortion, corruption, and kidnapping. Mayito Flaco's involvement in the Sinaloa Cartel predates the current
conflict, however. According to a 2014 indictment, Zambada Sicairos was charged with conspiring to distribute controlled substances, including smuggling large quantities of cocaine and marijuana into the USA. US authorities also identified Mayito Flaco as a dual Mexican-US national, born in Anaheim, California, in 1982. The Department of the Treasury listed out a highly detailed breakdown of how
Mayito Flaco relies on a network of trusted lieutenants to maintain his operations and support for war against Los Chapitos. Among his closest associates is Hildigardo Gastelum Garcia, aka Aldo, whom US authorities describe as one of his most trusted advisers and a trafficker whose illicit revenues help finance the war against Los Chapitos. Another key figure is Jorge Luis Mendoza
