What's up! how are you? Welcome to this video, I'm Olbaid and this is episode 10 of the FL Studio 20 full course In the previous video we saw the sampler settings I explained to you every control of this window except for this controls and this section because I'm going to show you that in this video

and the topic today is Audio clips I showed the sampler first because many controls are the same of audio clips An audio clip is an audio file, same as a sample but this is directly loaded into the playlist instead of the channel rack You can do this two ways: First: click and drag the file and drop it into the playlist, instead of the channel rack

As you can see, the cursor changes You can see the visual help indicating the audio start position and this waveform is generated Now... At the same time, a new channel was created in the channel rack The difference is, the sampler can be seen only in channel rack And an audio clip, has slighly different controls

actually less controls And you have visual help: the waveform is into the playlist Let me move this Go to the playlist and press play

You will see the audio is played just the same as the sampler in a pattern I'm going to load the same sound in a sampler

So we have the two windows This way is easy to note the differences Sampler has more options This extra tab too Another way to create an audio clip is to open the sampler click the waveform, drag and drop And it's done! another audio clip was created Let's see the settings of this window

An audio clip has less controls than a sampler, because an audio clip is supposed to be played without further processing in other words, this audio is going to be used directly so the extra controls are removed to save resources, is supposed to be the final or definite version of your audio file If you go to channel rack, you will see a new group was created

this is automatic when you load an audio clip and all the new audio clips will be grouped here also the audio clip color is different but you can change it if you like, and rename it too if you do so... the waveform color in playlist will change too this way is easier to identify

ok let's move on these functions are identical to sampler's So I'm not going to repeat this again if you want to review these controls, please go to episode 9 Let's see the unexplained controls wich are the same for sampler an audio clips but in audio clips is more important, this section is called declicking mode

these are different ways fl studio has to process slices or cuts Select the Slice tool and slice anywhere in the middle then separate both slices using Draw tool (pencil)

As you can see, the slices are straight forward, there is not any kind of transitions so declicking mode can change that First option is Out Only, the straight cut, is the default setting Second option is "Transient" basically the same as previous one, the Out Only setting. But may change with some audio files, with cuts right in the transient sections

now the third option as you can see, there is the word bleeding between brackets Now pay attention, I'm going to zoom in there is this little fade out the cut was made here, but still plays a little more after that

this way the slice is not straight, at least not in the end of the slice, this helps to create little fades, see this other slice, the start is straight if you take the end of the clip and move it... the fade will appear after the audio ends, there is no effect. Audio clips can be edited in different ways

Go here and activate the "stretch" option This way you can stretch the clip instead of just manipulate its length Since this slice is part of the same audio clip, as soon as you release the left click, FL Studio will recalculate its pitch You can stretch it to be shorter or longer

Ok, keep in mind for now the pitch is changing, we'll get to that in a few moments Another option here is "generic", this modify the slice start too with a fade in Remember to deactivate the "stretch" option in order to change audio clip length

Choose whatever fits your needs next option is "smooth", here the fade out and fade in is even longer and last option is "croosfade"

This has the longest fades around the slice point For example, even if I slice right here The tail is still really long, volumen rises progressively

Choose any of this options acording to your needs Let's change topic, Let me zoom out, as you can see, audio clips can be moved similar to patterns Let's create something this is pattern 1, with 4 kicks here we can change view between the 3 types of clips in playlist the default is patterns, middle one is audio clips

and the third one is automation clips but that's for another video place pattern 1 here I'm going to mute this for now Ok, is just a kick now let's take the same kick and create an audio clip click, drag and drop You can select here the audio clip you want to place just like with patterns, it's the same

or click over an audio clip and, when you left click again, that sample will be placed let's compare the kick in sampler

and now kick in audio clip

Is evident there is a difference is volume why? basically is the same sound, but since audio clip is suposed to be used straight forward FL Studio will play it with volume at 100% However, in sampler you can do some tweaks, and the default volume is lower move the sampler volume knob and you will see is around 78%

after placing it at 100% it should sound about the same level as an audio clip

Ok, so let's talk about pros and cons of sampler and audio clips First consideration, placing audio clips could be tedious because first you have to do it one by one but is more visual and easy to locate. Imagine I want to repeat this pattern simple as that

but with audio clips first I have to place them 1 by 1 or maybe place a few then copy and paste them with the same keyboard shortcuts as patterns Maybe you have more flexibility if you want to move the audio just a bit without have to create a new pattern Another thing to keep in mind: samples are played at the same speed regardless tempo

But audio clips may change if you move tempo

Even the waveform changes this is affected by the "time stretch" settings there are more options here that modify sampler, audio clips and other plugins but that topic is for the next episode I just wanted to show the two ways you can load sounds: sampler and audio clips in playlist Now if you ask me,

personally, for most of sounds (except vocals and FX), I prefer the sampler because is more efficient manage patterns and paste many in a single click and also you can slice and move them and this gives you flexibility without give up control But it's up to you, choose what works best for you this will be the end of this episode
