John 17 okay. We get so caught up in trying to refute the distortion of this passage that we forget the theme of the chapter, the purpose of the chapter as it unveils the infinite love and heart of our God. Because we get so caught up in trying to refute, we overlook the fact that verse three is part of a context where the Son is praying to the Father.
And as He's praying, He then reveals the infinite heart and love of our God. He was Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Okay, are we ready now? Let's read it, not for polemical or apologetic purposes. Let's read it devotionally. Let's read it the way it was meant to be read, to see the heart of God,
what God's will is for us, and what the Lord desires for us. Let's focus. This is meant to be read devotionally, meant to be read not for polemical or apologetic purposes to see what God's will is for us on Earth, what God has destined for us, what Jesus prays for us. Okay, let's begin.
Okay, watch the heart of our God. Jesus spoke these things, and lifting up his eyes to Heaven, He said, "Father, the hour is come." Because now remember this is the night of His betrayal, and this is not in the Garden of Gethsemane. The Lord is in the upper room, the Lord is in the room with the disciples,
and He's praying this in front of them so they can hear what God has destined for them. Hear the love of God for them, right? Hear what the Lord is doing for them and what He wants for them. Okay, keep that in mind. So He knows the hour has come. The hour has come for Him to be lifted up, the Son of Man lifted up on the cross.
So now this is why He's saying the hour has come for me to be glorified by You. Glorify your Son that the Son may glorify You. It's time, Father. This is why I came into the world, that through the cross I would be glorified, You would be glorified in union with me, and through me You would glorify me.
