Looking at the current state of affairs, I believe this is a passage we need to reconsider, so I would like to preach on this text once again. Leaving everything behind, sailing on the Mayflower, solely to keep their faith, the Puritans crossed to the New World and founded America. Its presidential election recently came to an end.

Defying all expectations, Trump, who openly advocated white supremacy, was elected president. With protests against Trump ongoing there, our nation is also in turmoil amid candlelight demonstrations. What exactly is politics? Second Samuel 3:1 says, "David grew stronger and stronger, "David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker." Yet, even as he grew stronger,

David's fatal flaw remained unchanged. When Saul was chasing him, his lust was kept in check. But once Saul died and his main enemy was gone, even in the midst of war, he continued to take more wives, right before today's passage. David's insurmountable weakness became a fatal flaw and was exposed as an ongoing struggle.

Today, we see how it left him helpless. We often think David is great and full of faith, but seeing him continually show such weakness is exactly why we need the grace of the cross. Today we will consider the problems that followed from David saying, "I am weak today." First, "because I am weak today,"

he could not overcome opportunism. Despite David's fatal flaw, he waited, and his enemies split apart and handed him the kingdom. It's a life with no room to boast, yet it happened because David persevered. War is hard, wherever and whenever it is fought. War reeks of blood. Even though David's side won at the Battle of Gibeon,
