Three edge cases and a minor existential crisis, but who's counting? I'm building the app Stay Away, which encourages you to delete your social media apps from
your phone and helps you not relapse. But right now, my biggest nightmare is the onboarding flow. My onboarding completion rate is [music] 48.21%. It's under 50%, which means that half the people that actually download the app end up vanishing. Looking at the funnel, there's a giant cliff the moment I ask for notifications or device
activity screens. So, I need to figure out a way to fix this because if half the people are dropping off before even seeing the usefulness of the app, it's pointless.
I just spent some time mapping out the entire new flow on Miro. So, instead of ambushing them with permission requests like the old flow did immediately, the new flow is going to ask them to pick the exact social media app that's ruining their life and I'm going to show them a visual reality check of how bad
the addiction really is. And it reassures them, "Hey, we're not here to steal your data. We're here to help you destroy your screen time." I really hope that this improves [music] the onboarding flow.
