hello there friends welcome back to another episode of generation Tech my name is Allan Order 66 is perhaps one of the most fantastic and terrifying operations ever carried out by a military force in Galactic history While most people like to focus on the struggle between the Sith and the Jedi the underlying conflict that led to this

operation today I want to take a look at the relationship between the clone troopers and their Jedi officers a very complex and often ethically challenging bond between two groups of Warriors trained from the birth to fight for a cause greater than themselves I mean that's the thing a lot of people forget that there are a lot of similarities

between the clones and the Jedi in this crazy Galaxy I feel like they should understand each other better the most the fat clones were born in test tubes they didn't have parents only each other they would be trained mostly on Camino by the education staff there who instilled in them a love for the republ

and loyalty to its armed forces the Jedi on the other hand were born to biological parents but then taken away from their parents at extremely young ages often before they could form memories of their families they would be trained at the Jedi Temple on corant by the education staff there who instilled in them the importance of the Republic

and their relationship with the light side of the force neither group of individuals really have a say on what course their life will take and are driven by a sense of responsibility and Duty for the wider Galaxy these Warriors are fully comfortable with the sacrifices they must make for the greater good in a lot of ways their

Devotion to the cause adherance to orders above all else is what gets them into so much trouble in the first place of course it's easier for us the audience to kind of see these similarities between these two groups we're not like in the thick of it we can step back and take a look at the

situation in a more objective manner but when the clones and Jedi initially met both sides actually viewed the other as extremely alien the Jedi couldn't really understand how the Clone situation wasn't all that different from theirs most shed I believed it was their privilege to be taken from their parents and raised in the temple they didn't see

because of the rush nature of how they were introduced you know the Clones were discovered by Obi-Wan Kenobi and shortly after they were storming the battlefields of gnos is chasing their newly appointed Jedi commanders you know these two groups never really got to meet and talk before they went onto the battlefield they didn't uh understand

each other's limitations what their training was like and I think that caused some major issues whether it was by Design or not that first charge on Geonosis was hugely demoralizing for the Clone Army these clone troopers have been indoctrinated for all their lives to believe that their commanding officers knew what they were doing and

could be trusted but these clones quickly found out that their Jedi commanders often had little to no combat leadership experience the Battle of Geonosis involved completely green Jedi commanders leading their units over flat completely exposed ground against heavily fortified separatist positions it was only by luck that the Republic managed to down a core ship and created

a massive dust storm that actually finally gave the Clones a little bit of cover so that they could finally advance but by that time the casualties suffered by the Vanguard units were already catastrophic the unit that suffered the most was actually the clone commandos they were placed in the Vanguard despite being you know Special Forces Raiders

who uh typically fight Behind Enemy Lines using asymmetric Warfare they were kind of wasted on this Grand Battlefield this shocking first taste of combat combined with the Jedi poor leadership awakened a lot of clones to their new reality the Clones began to understand that they could really only trust each other on the battlefield they develop a

pretty cynical view of the world pretty quickly as time went on the Clones realized that they were the only ones with the proper training on the battlefield at the same time the Jedi whose teachings called for a lack of attachment made it difficult for these Jedi to connect to their soldiers the relationship between the commanding

class and the grunts has always been pretty complicated the Jedi's teachings made it easier for the Jedi to view their soldiers as military assets rather than men and this would further complicate the relationships between the clones and their Jedi commanders you know in some cases you had Jedi commanders like Kad Mundi who might

appear to have very little empathy for anyone because of his you know very uh close adherence to the Jedi Code he was a True Believer in the Republic war effort and was more than willing to sacrifice the Clones beneath his command to achieve strategic goals all the while he was doing this he would be quoting

you know Jedi sayings and other kind of things with I'm sure really pissed off his men it's not all that surprising that when Order 66 was executed clone Marshall Commander Baka showed very little pause before gunning down his General the two have been at odds because of their disagreements on the battlefield uh Commander bakarra put his

men's safety Above All Else whereas ke M was all focused on the mission but also on adhering to Jedi standards on the battlefield which often times put his clones in unnecessarily dangerous situations then you had commanders who showed open disdain for their clone troopers like Pon Krell who viewed the Clones as inferior beings who were too

stupid to be shown any real respect Pon crell was known for brutally sending his clones head first into enemy defenses and although he was usually quite successful in whatever Mission he was assigned to his clones often paid a heavy price for his tactics quinland Voss also had an uneasy relationship with clones viewing the soldiers as

Living Weapons and failed to develop closer relations to the men beneath his command but then there were other Jedi individuals who were more compassionate uh known for kind of walking that thin line between U loving someone and forming attachments we're talking about individuals like Obi-Wan Kenobi Anakin Skywalker Ahsoka Tano and AA Sakira

these were Jedi who all had their own struggles when it came to containing their emotions and feelings for others these commanders that I mentioned also formed very close bonds to their clones obiwan canobi and Commander Cody were like brothers on the battlefield on numerous occasions Obi-Wan Kenobi saved Cody's life he also taught Cody how

important it was for an officer to do their due diligence during the planning phase of any operation see when a person is placed into a leadership position it doesn't make them more power hungry or evil instead it kind of accentuates their qualities it accentuates their strengths and weaknesses Oban Kenobi would be a terrific Mentor for Cody and

in many ways was like an older brother or even father figure for the Clones beneath his command at the end of the day obiwan Kenobi was a good guy and he cared for people and we have to remember that even even though these clones were born without parents every individual has a natural desire to be mentored and

cared for by a stronger and more capable person that they can trust when the relationship between the Jedi commander and his clone troopers was good everyone benefited from it and these units typically were more functional the Clone specifically would learn to adopt many of the Jedi personality traits I when you have a million brothers who are all

identical to you and have very similar profession and goals in life it's supporting to develop your own unique identity but it can be hard to do so without examples to follow and so the Jedi represented kind of a role model for a lot of these clones to follow Anakin Skywalker had an even greater

effect on his men the famous 5001 Battalion as a leader Anakin always wore his heart on his sleeves you know he was emotional and patient and also somewhat Reckless but at his core he was extremely loyal to the people he loved and when he extended that umbrella over you you couldn't help but want to do

everything in your power to Aid him in his mission that's because not only did Anakin care for his men he was genuine ly a terrific leader on the battlefield his strategic and tactical mind was uh very complex and he was also a terrific Warrior as a result not only did his Commander Captain Rex become heavily

influenced by him most of the men in the 501st started exhibiting all sorts of unique characteristics for instance most of the 501st would start decorating their armor and also themselves with unique hairstyles and even facial tattoos Anakin encouraged these clones to find their own identity and a lot of this has to do with his desire to to

recognize the Clones as individuals as friends he would go into combat with ahok would also learn to treat the Clones like family from her master and although she would make some pretty huge mistakes early on in her command career she remained devoted to her clones and developed a very close relationship with her men as well and then we have the

lovely AA Sakira who was known as a very passionate and emotional Jedi she adopted an almost maternal role with her clones and they fought through some pretty terrible campaigns but she managed to win the respect of her men through her Marshall prowess and also her compassion for their suffering and so when her clones were ordered to gun

her down after Order 66 it was said that commander blinde and his Squad shot her many extra times to make sure that her death was quick and as painless as possible now the relationship between most clone units and their Jedi officers was pretty professional I mean um we're talking about extremes here right Pon

Krell is an extreme Anakin is Extreme most of the Clones and their Jedi were kind of in the middle somewhere but the relationship between the clones and their Jedi General's Apprentice was often a bit more different even though these Jedi Padawan were considered commanders and usually given the rank of Commander they were still physically

very young even though the Clones were pretty young too at least they look like adults it wasn't uncommon for these clones to adopt their junior commanders as almost a younger brother or sister that was up the vibe that Captain Rex had with Commander Ahsoka the two were so close that when Order 66 happened

Captain Rex would hesitate to shoot her somehow and his eyes were actually flooded with tears because of the situation the shows is just how important these relationships were to the clones you know the Clones weren't just designed to fight and kill they were also designed to protect the weak and innocent you know that's why I think

a lot of people like them you also had other Jedi younglings like calus who was almost like a mascot for his master's unit the 13th Battalion the Clones of that unit were constantly testing and training Cal making sure that he was ready for the battlefield well it was easy for the 13th Battalion to

understand why C's Master jaro toal might be a traitor it was a lot harder for them to accept that a child also needed to be executed Caleb Doom also shared a similar relationship with his master's unit and had a really terrific relationship with the Clones Captain gray in particular had grown really fond

of the little one and would constantly try to Mentor him when Order 66 was carried out Captain gray was a part of the unit that would kill his Commander Jedi General Deepa bolba but Caleb would actually escape the incident you see the tragic thing about the Clones is no matter how strong and impendent minded

they were no matter how strong willed they were the inhibitor chips had complete control over the brains when they were AC activated as mentioned not even Captain Rex could fight the effects of the inhibitor chips and it was only because of sheer skill that someone like Ahsoka could escaped that situation or in Caleb Doom's case it was just sheer

luck that he managed to get away but once the inhibitor chips feverish control over a clone diminishes the Clones are still left with the consequences of their actions and this was extremely difficult for clones who had developed a good relationship with their commanders and no matter how much propaganda the Empire filled the Clones

heads in no matter how much the Clone commanding officers try to justify Order 66 for some clones it just wasn't enough for instance Captain gray would be placed in charge of a Manhunt for Caleb the young Jedi had fallen in with some criminals in his desperate attempt to escape the Empire while in Pursuit

Captain gray actually ends up helping Caleb Escape by sabotaging the Imperial ship that he's on he ultimately felt terrible for betraying the Jedi and unlike many other clones who found justifications for their actions during Order 66 Captain gr decided to Rebel we see this with other clones as well as Commander Cody who stayed with the

Empire even after Order 66 although we never find out how he felt about ordering the execution of his good friend and Mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi Cody does quickly realize that the Empire he has sworn loyalty to was very different from the Republic and it was quickly turning into an organization he couldn't fight for Captain Rex would be saved by

Ahsoka after Order 66 he has his inhibitor chip removed from his brain now he kind of knew about the inhibitor chps ready thanks to the whole tup incident on Ringo vinda where the clone troopers inhibitor chip malfunctioned and led to him carrying out Order 66 prematurely but when Captain Rex finally has that chip removed out of his brain

when confronted with the terrible situation that he just been through how does he react well being the pragmatic individual that he was he started focusing on starting an underground movement to remove as many clones from the inhibitor chips as well this wasn't about politics it was about giving the Clones the ability to choose what they

wanted to do with their lives like for a lot of these clones these inhibitor ships Abus their basic human rights you know their ability to have autonomy and so this was a big problem for clones like Captain Rex he couldn't just let it go you know despite all the Clones sharing the same DNA in this case in

this massive twin study there were huge deviations and personality amongst all the clone troopers and how they reacted to order 66 and one of the biest factors that determined how they acted was their prior experiences and relationships with their J commanders some clones like Crosshair were truly obedient to the Empire and were ready to carry out Order

66 others like the rest of the bad batch or individuals like Hower had more positive views of their Jedi leaders and were never going to go along with the Empire's rule for some clones learning that their former Jedi commanders had betrayed the Republic was in extremely you know painful and shocking realization and that's as far as these

clones got they would murder their commanders and feel sorrow because of the Betrayal of their leaders believing the lies being fed to them by Palpatine unfortunately for the majority of the Clones they just accepted this narrative they believed that their mentors their leaders had failed them and now they were moving on to the next stage of the

Republic which was the Empire but ultimately enough clones Lov their commanders that palatin began to see the clone troopers as a threat and liability to his new Empire this might have been one of the major factors that led to the replacement of the Clone Army so there you have it guys as you can see you know

Order 66 was really hard for a specific set of clones that were forced to essentially kill their friends and Mentor in Cold Blood it was also a moment where they had to ask themselves am I truly in control over my own life which probably was a very demoralizing kind of um thought to have but anyway
