categorize typologies of cults and other new religious movements two such examples of how new religious movements are categorized will be discussed in this video looking at the work of wallace and stark and bainbridge according to roy wallace there are three types of new religious movement these are world affirming new religious movements world accommodating new religious

movements and world rejecting new religious movements i will look at the characteristics of each of these in more detail world affirming new religious movements sometimes referred to as cults seek to offer their members spiritual enrichment they often do not include belief in a god and generally make few demands upon their members instead they offer personal fulfillment

meditation and ways to turn individuals into better people unlocking their hidden potential this can include quite individualized beliefs such as participating in forms of meditation and there is much overlap here with new age movements mostly they require individuals to undergo some form of training and minor financial commitment they see their members as customers and

not worshipers examples of these type of movements include transcendental meditation and the human potential movement world accommodating new religious movements separate life into spiritual and worldly spheres and focus on the spiritual sphere they neither affirm nor reject the world but they do adapt in order to ensure that they can peacefully co-exist world accommodating nrms are often
