AI Data Center: What Actually It Is? | Professor of AI

If someone asks you what is AI data center ? I mean literally exactly what is an AI data center? So you should throw this answer in his face that AI data center is basically a very large highly secured building or campus in which thousands of specialized computers are connected together. A normal data center can

run websites, banking apps, and cloud storage. But AI data centers are heavily populated with GPUs, kind of graphics cards or AI accelerator chips. These chips are designed to perform many mathematical calculations simultaneously. Because every answer of AI model like Chat GPT is made from billions of calculations. Now when you type any question on Chat GPT,

that question is not solved inside your phone. Your phone is just a window. Your question travels through the Internet through fiber optic cables laid under the ground and sea at the speed of light and reaches a similar building located in some corner of the world. There the AI model breaks your question into tokens i.e.

small pieces and creates its answer by predicting the next word one by one. That's why you see the answer on Chattivity being typed word by word because the answer is actually being created live at that very moment. And then the same answer travels in reverse and comes back to your screen in two-three seconds. Now, while doing so many calculations,

these chips become extremely hot. To keep them cool, a large AI data center uses up to 20 lakh liters of water every day and so much electricity that a single data center consumes the electricity of 75,000 houses. Therefore, now Google is investing ₹1,30,000 crore to build the world's largest AI data centers in Vizag and Reliance in Jamnagar
