Good morning, my brothers. Please open your Bibles once more to Matthew, chapter 26, Gospel of Matthew, chapter 26, verse 42. And then let's pray. Matthew 26:42. Going away again, he prayed a second time, saying, "My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done." It would not be an exaggeration to say

that in this simple prayer of Matthew 26:42 and especially in the last three words, "Thy will be done." This prayer is one of the most important that has ever been uttered. Just as sin entered the world when a man, Adam, said to God, "My will be done." Well, in the same way, if

we have hope of salvation today, it is because Christ changed the me to the you. Thy will be done. Jesus fought the toughest battle of his entire life in Gethsemane before the cross. And my brothers, she won it on her knees. On your knees. His prayer to God at that moment—and I'm not exaggerating—his prayer to God at

that moment changed the course of history and the eternity of millions. And God wanted to record his prayer in the gospel, not to awaken our curiosity, not to make us feel sorry. not from the poor Jesus, but so that we may better understand the price of our redemption and so that we may worship with greater gratitude the Savior

who willingly gave his life for us. Now, before we go into the passage, let me place the passage in its context. A few minutes earlier, as we read earlier, Jesus and his disciples had left the upper room, where they ate the Passover meal and where Jesus instituted the supper that we are going to participate in a

moment. From there they went to the Garden of Gethsemane after singing a hymn, as verse 30 says. And probably the hymn they sang was Psalm 118, because it was the last psalm sung at Passover. Now, that psalm begins and ends with the same words. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his
