What Pirates Taught Me About Journaling

Welcome back to another video. Uh, this is not going to be your Disney Channel, Pirates of the Caribbean. This video is going to be just a little bit different because I could not stop doing research about how pirates journal write the writings of pirates. Started with Blackbeard, Exquelamin, is that how you pronounce his name? I

don't know. The Barbar Wars and Barbar pirates. Ended up rereading the accounts of Julius Caesar getting captured by pirates early on in his life. I reread The Wager, looking all at just these different dynamics of like being shipwrecked and mutiny and oh, it was great. But nothing nothing was as wild as what we're going to dive into today

because we need to talk about the saint whose writing an entire life was shaped by not one but two pirate raids. Let's get into it. Today we're talking about St. Patrick, his writings, the two letters, journalings that he did that not only affected his life, changed his life significantly. Obviously, if you're going to experience two pirate raids

like this, you're going to have something to say. But it's obviously impacted the entirety of the world for the rest of human history since Patrick has been around. I mean, think about it. When you think about St. Patrick, you think about Ireland. If you think about Ireland, you think about Catholics and Christians and everything in the last

1500 years, right? Can come back to Patrick's efforts there in Ireland. So St. Patrick was born into a middle-class Roman family in Britain. He was nominally Christian, raised Christian or whatever, but he was practically an atheist. He learns how to write with a wax tablet and a stylus, which makes writing affordable for him, but also
