Child Development Center: Outdoor Classroom Tour

[Music] hi i'm teacher angie here at the miramar college child development center it's my privilege today to take you on a tour of our outdoor classroom and you'll notice i said outdoor classroom not playground and find out why [Music] just like you would see in a normal indoor classroom in our outdoor classroom we practice our abcs

our 123s reading writing communication social emotional skills everything we want to stimulate their senses their visual senses we want to make it look beautiful and stimulating for them we want them to have the sounds of nature in the background those birds chirping you here the wind blowing in the trees our wind chimes going

and we want to have them touching putting their hands in things so that's why we do things like have them writing in sand so that they know that writing happens anywhere not just on pen and paper there's another key element in our outdoor classroom another huge perk for having our children learn outside is that they can

use those natural elements like water we have every day a water table set up like you see here where children can experiment with measuring cause and effect pouring they're getting those self-help skills like they would be doing pouring milk at home or pouring their own juice they get to practice out here in a safe environment

where there's no consequences for spilling we also have them watering our plants and you'll also see that we're outside even when it's raining so that the children can experience natural water falling from the sky splashing in puddles riding their bikes through them everything even activities that would traditionally be seen indoors here at miramar cdc we give our children
