Lord, we thank you this morning for this word that we are about to share. May we be good soil, Lord, that we may be attentive and receive it with joy, and above all, Lord, may you speak to our hearts so that we may strengthen our faith and our communion with you and continue forward
on your path without being intimidated by anything or anyone, but always joyful, victorious, with one accord, with peace in our hearts. Bless this word, Lord, and may it be a blessing to all who are here and to all the brothers and sisters who we know will be very attentive to the sharing of your word.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen and amen. Glory to the Lord. This morning I want to take you once again to Paul's letter to the Corinthians. Specifically, we are going to begin reading some verses in chapter 3. While you are looking for that portion of the Bible, I want to tell you, as you already know,
that the church in Corinth was founded and pastored for approximately a year by the Apostle Paul. He came from Greece, where he says that his spirit was stirred seeing the city completely surrendered, totally given over to idolatry. There in Greece he did not found Curiously, he didn't establish a congregation. Although he gave a
tremendously profound and extraordinary message at the Areopagus, when he went to the city of Corinth, he said, "When I was among you, I resolved to know nothing and to speak of nothing except Christ crucified and risen, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power, which transforms and liberates souls."
And here in this city of Corinth, a corrupt city, a city of terrible sexual promiscuity, where pagan temples abounded everywhere, even on top of a mountain in Corinth there was a temple where there were 1,000 young women who had surrendered their bodies to religious prostitution. They shaved their heads completely, and these girls, who were sacred prostitutes
