Hi, I’m Yusuke Satohara. This is another radio episode—maybe the fourth one? It’s been a little while. It’s a relaxed kind of video where I talk about recent life and respond to comments, as the title says. My usual videos take quite a lot of editing work, so there isn’t much room for casual conversation.

So I made this as a place for that kind of thing. It’s less about reaching new viewers and more about giving regular viewers something a little deeper. So rather than watching closely, I hope you can listen while doing something else. Let’s get into it. It’s hot already—and summer is going to be even hotter.

Japanese summers are seriously hot. To keep this radio moving, I made myself some notes. First up: “Where should I hike in summer?” Low mountains become almost impossible to hike in the heat. So when that happens, you start thinking about the Alps. I’m considering the Southern Alps this summer, and maybe the Northern Alps too.

But honestly, as I’ll get into later, I tend to prefer lower mountains to big alpine routes. With lower or lesser-known mountains, you can find interesting routes yourself and pair them with good places in town. I love being able to design a whole day around the hike—like the South Takao Seven Summits video I posted recently.

I’m fairly good at planning days like that. Because I enjoy it, I don’t get as motivated to seek out the big Northern or Southern Alps. I mostly hike solo, so I can’t really take on the more adventurous route choices either. So I don’t actively go looking for those routes, to be honest. But what I really want to ask is:

Where are all of you heading this summer? I’m thinking of asking in the comments. If you know any fun routes or plans in the Northern or Southern Alps, please tell me—although yes, I know I should research them myself. Still, since this is a radio episode, I thought I’d ask for your help. I wrote that I’m looking for routes where the walking itself is good, not just the summit. That is asking a lot.
