Hello students, today we are starting a new chapter of Physical Chemistry and it is a very comfortable chapter. Students like it very much and its name is Chemical Kinetics. Kinetics means rate. Chemical kinetics means the rate of a chemical reaction. So how do we determine and measure the rate of chemical reactions and how is the rate of
reaction affected? is by various factors like concentration, temperature, catalyst all that we are going to learn here in chemical kinetics. So write the heading Chemical Kinetics.
What is chemical kinetics? It deals with measurement of rate of reaction, the mechanism by which reaction proceeds and factors affecting
rate of reaction. Which factors? Factors like concentration, temperature, catalyst etc. In the entire chapter we are going to study how to measure the rate of reaction, what is the mechanism? is by which reactants are converted into products and what are the various factors that affect the rate of reaction like concentration, temperature, catalyst. Well, from the point of view of kinetics,
we can define the reaction in three ways. Reactions can be very fast, instantaneous, very slow, extremely slow. And moderate rate reaction, in this way very fast reaction like example acid base neutralization, if you react HCL with NaOH, you will not be able to blink an eye. The reaction will be completed in no time with acid base
neutralization occurring and NaCl salt plus H2O is formed. Similarly like precipitation, if KCl aqueous solution is added to AgNO3, then AgCl precipitate is formed. Plus you get potassium nitrate. The reaction is complete in the blink of an eye. Within a fraction of a second these reactions are completed and it is very difficult
