So hi everyone uh in this week we will talk about digital migration uh media migration and mobility. So before going to talk about uh today's topic I just want to uh remind you that we have discussed last week. So last week we discussed about the the digital border and border and bordering. We try to

conceptualize how we can define border and also the border in practice. And more specifically we discussed uh how we can uh frame or define digital border as a techn symbolic assemblance. We uh also used a case study the Mars for Australia to understand how we can apply uh digital border uh framework in

this specific case. So just to summarize that uh the border are no longer exist only in a territorial uh borders rather the border has become uh constantly mediated dispersed and con tested through digital and cultural processes. Also we discuss uh uh details about the A2 as a guideline. So those who are still confused please have a look on the

previous slide. Um so you will get some detailed idea about assessment too. Uh so in this week uh specifically we will focus on the intersection of media mobility and migrations and also we will talk about the digital migration studies and in part two we talk about the the digital technologies in the context of

humanitarian or force migrations and also we will try to um explore some concept like trust data privacy and technoc colonialism. in the context of humanitarian um crisis. Okay. So since the beginning uh we have been discussing on uh mobility uh different types of mobility including mobility in mobility, mobility justice, urban mobility etc. So

the mobility has become kind of a synonymous with the migration right. So the migration and mobility um these are the more commonly used to understand the human migration but these two terms are not the same. Uh it has some uh key or subtle difference. So however the both uh concept are used to define transnational

circulation of flow, transnational human mobility, transnational human migration etc. But while migration studies or migration focus primarily on crossborder connection or locations, mobility studies take a more holistic approach or perspective to understand the human movement is a fundamental human life capturing the complexity of the people on the move. So uh as we can

see here the mobility and migration are both synonymous in order to define mobility human mobility and transnational circulation of flow human movement etc. But while the mobility uh migration is more focusing on the crossber connection like migrating from one country to another country. On the other hand, the mobility is more uh it

provides a more holistic and comprehensive understanding of the human migration considering the inequality, power, um surveillance, immobility, justice, etc. So the mobility lens provides more complex and more comprehensive understanding of the human migration. So in order to explore uh this mobility paradigm or mobility uh different types of mobility we will try to explore some

different types of mobility like corporeal mobility, physical mobility, imaginative mobility, virtual and cognitive mobility. So based on this as we discuss as we are looking into how mobility is shaped by the digital technologies. So in order to understand the dynamics of intersection of migration, mobility and digital technology, so there is a call digital

migration studies. So in this context, a new and growing field of digital migration studies has emerged. It critically examines the human mobility and migration in relation to the rise of information communication technologies and expansion of digital communications in which social media have shaped the culture of connectivity. Right. So uh you can see here there's a couple of

book um cover. So these are the some uh key scholaric contribution in the digital migration studies. So you can have a look and also there is a book which is open access. Uh if you really want to know more about digital migration studies please have a look on this book. So so the question is how do digital

technologies shape the migration and the displacement. So since we are talking about the intersection of mobility, migration and digital media, we need to understand the different spect and scopes. How the migration movement or the human how the migrants lives have become uh have shaped or become um affected by the use of digital

technology. So you can see here there's a lot of uh studies have been uh discussing exploring about the intersection of migration mobility for example online migrants the connected migrants co-present effective network space smart refugee digital dashboard etc. So these are the some key concept uh that have been discussed um in order to understand the intersection

of human mobility digital technology migration. So I just try to compile some of the key aspect uh of the how migrant life has uh how migrant people are using or how migrants community can be uh applied can be uh have been using uh digital technology for for their everyday life. So there are some sort of uh classifications or

the cluster that you can have a look uh for example the governance and border and control how the people how the um digital technology become a kind of a tool in order to control the human migration for example the digital humanitarian context also immobility power and surveillance and also secondly the in order to negotiate culture

identity and belonging like a digital diaspora and trust activism we'll talk about later then next week and also the everyday life, how for examples using social media or digital technology in order to access education in order to access to information sources etc. And finally the access inclusion participants. So as we discussed that

the digital uh media are not um not for everyone because everyone may may not have the equal access or literacy or affordance in order to uh get access to the digital uh devices. So when uh specifically it's quite crucial in in the humanitarian or in the migration context in order to understand the

different dynamics um different aspects that shape their media use. So these are the some key clusters or the some key aspect that can be discussed from more digital migration studies perspective. So in part two we will talk about digital humanitarianism. So humanitarianism is the uh the use of technologies in humanitarian context like force migration context. For

example, there's a refugee crisis, the conflict uh like emergency. So where the government government need to um address the situation as address the crisis using the different digital technologies. So during our tutorial we will try to explore some key how we can explore how we can uh what are the key concern we should address during the

humanitarian context. So more specifically we will try to focus on three aspect one is called trust data privacy and technoc colonialism. So the based on these three concept I just want to um highlight some of the key uh aspect that we need to critically uh assess in order to understand the digital humanitarian result. for

examples who designed these technologies for so in the refugee camp setting you can see here there's a uh images from uh UNCR so in a in a refugee context or in a refugee camp and all refugee has to be um registered in their uh digital portal so the question is who designed these

technologies and who owns this own the data how long it will be stored or it can be assessed by the government for example the Rohingya refugee who fled their country um Myanmar to the UNCR or any other group any other NOS's who are using uh their personal data can be shared with the government either

Myanmar or their host government like Bangladesh. Okay. So what choices uh do people in crisis truly have when they are compelled to submit their personal information? So as a refugee or as a migrant we need to submit or share our personal data right. So we don't have any choice whether we need to share or

not and what truly benefits and who uh carers uh the burden of risk. So these are the some key concept we will try to explore during our tutorial and also we will have some sort of critical discussion. So and also I just want to highlight one reflection you can have a look on this like when technology for

good is harmful. So we know that techn technology is made for human society, technology for the society. But again um all technology may not be uh useful although it has some good intent. So we need to explore when the good technology technology for good become harmful. So we will try to explore this um prompt

based on the the Milkadian's concept of technocolonialism during the case study uh in the tutorial. So there are some essential sources um you can just have a look to prepare yourself for the assessment and for the tutorial as well. So thank you so much for your time and hope to see you soon. Bye.
