I’d like to share my best UL gear buys from the first half of the year. Hi, I’m Yusuke. This time, I’ll be sharing some of my best buys in hiking and UL gear. In the second half, I’ll also cover lightweight, compact items I’ve added to my everyday life and filming setup. First, a bit of context: I want to bring the benefits of UL into areas beyond the mountains as well.

I want to own fewer things overall— smaller things, and lighter things. Sometimes, rather than pursuing the lightest version of one item, I prioritize reducing the total amount of gear I own. So this time, rather than simply introducing purchases I liked, I also want to talk about what I bought, and what I let go of at the same time. A few of these items, though,

haven’t been properly tested out in the field yet, so I’ll share my impressions as they are now. Some of the gear featured in this video is linked in the description, so please take a look if anything catches your interest. Let’s get into it. First up— the big one right away. This is the new Mountain Laurel Designs SOLOMID PRO.

It’s made from DCF and weighs 280 grams. I imagine not many people know this one yet—it’s a shelter that only came out this year. It’s a floorless shelter with no inner. One feature of this tent is that it has an optional bug-net skirt. Opened up, it looks like this. It’s difficult to show the whole thing,

so I’ll just show you parts of it. It’s DCF. For anyone unfamiliar with it, DCF is a fully waterproof fabric: it keeps water out and blocks most wind as well. This is the peak of the tent.
