Hey guys! In this second part, we're going to see how philosophy differs from other fields of knowledge. Philosophy is not a religion, nor is it a science. Each of these activities deals with different things. While they all have something in common—seeking to satisfy the natural curiosity of human beings— each does so in its own way. Let's see:

Religion is the oldest of the three. All religions have something in common: they believe in one or more gods through an act of faith. And what is faith? It's assuming that something is true even if we don't have proof of it. Religion works through dogmas, and dogmas are supposed truths received from God

that religious people don't question. Unlike religion, philosophy is a field of knowledge that critically analyzes each belief. It doesn't accept anything as valid if it isn't properly justified. Does this mean that philosophy and religion have nothing to do with each other? Actually, they do have some characteristics in common. They share some questions about the transcendence

of human beings or the interest in clarifying how we should behave. Christian morality, for example, affirms that we should always tell the truth. Why? Because that's what God has transmitted to us. From philosophy, one could arrive at the same conclusion. Conclusion or not, but always appealing to logical reasons, not to tradition or revelation, while

religion is static knowledge because it believes the same dogmas since its foundation. Philosophy rethinks everything and reinvents itself if necessary. I'll give you a heads-up so you're familiar with it: during the Middle Ages, a time when religion was very powerful, a central question for philosophy was the relationship between faith and reason.
