that offering that could be feeding a child or planting a new community, goes to mortgage, electricity, water, air conditioning and repairs. The fixed cost of maintaining a sacred brick goes into the overhead in [music] . What if I told you that this concept of sacred space was copied from pagan Roman temples and

is completely foreign to the teachings of the New Testament? What if you discovered that the architecture of your church was intentionally designed to make you a silent spectator? The padded chair, the elevated pulpit, the naves that separate you, it's all there to reinforce an idea that the Bible abolished, the belief that God lives in temples

made by human hands. This is not a minor problem. Studies [music] show that $230 billion is invested in church real estate alone in the United States. the most powerful ideas for your life. Before discussing the solution, we must confront the root of the problem. Where did the idea for the sacred building come from? Many people believe that building a large and expensive temple is an act of reverence to God. They think of Solomon's temple or the great cathedrals.

But here comes the counterintuitive truth. Original Christianity abolished the concept of the temple. The Bible teaches us that the true temple is the body of Christ, the people, the community, the church. Look at what happened in history. For the first three centuries, Christians met exclusively in homes. They did n't have special buildings.

His life was his temple. The word of God was shared around a table or in living rooms, where intimacy and mutual participation were possible. Do you know what fascinates me most about this? The idea of sacred space did not return until after the 1st century due to two main pagan influences. First, the cult of the martyrs.

People began to gather in cemeteries, the only public places available to honor the Christians [music] who died. This created an association of holiness with a physical place. Second, Constantine and the Roman Empire. When Constantine Christianized the empire around the year 327, in order to give status and legitimacy to the new religion, he had to give it an

imperial form. What did he do? He simply took the Roman basilicas, which were government and justice buildings, and turned them into churches. Imagine this scene for a moment: from the dinner table where everyone participated, to the basilica with its imposing architecture, its naves that separate the clergy from the people, and the elevated pulpit that tells you, "You don't

speak, you only listen." The building, the architecture, [music] became the main engine of passivity and ministerial monopoly. The problem with the building is not only its cost, it is that its very functional structure prevents the leadership of [music] Christ. If you have a fixed pulpit, you need a fixed speaker. If you have an altar, you need to have a

priest. The form of music dictates the function, and this form is the legacy of a pagan Roman model. Here's where it gets really interesting. The cost of sustaining that legacy is catastrophic. Think about the overhead. It is the gigantic financial sacred cow that consumes between 50 and 85% of offerings and tithes in

institutional churches. That is a resource that is being held hostage in bricks, [music] that is not reaching the poor or planting new communities, but only maintaining the heating, air conditioning and the salaries of the administrative staff who take care of the temple. Now that we understand that the building is a historical myth and a

financial drain, let's see how we can reverse this pattern. The path to deinstitutionalization begins with a conceptual revolution in the minds of the leadership. Step one, accept the non- temple and the principle of the ecclesia. The first action is not to sell the property, but to transform the identity. The leader and the community must embrace the

truth that the church is the organism, the body, the people, not the organization, which is the corporation, the building. This means killing the mentality of going to church and starting to live being the church. Let me show you something amazing. The theology of the New Testament is clear. Your body is a temple. The community that

gathers is the temple. The concept of sacred space is completely outdated. In the New Testament, the apostles met in the temple, the place they knew, and in homes, the place of life. The model that remains for us is shared life in community. The leader must preach, teach, and exemplify this change. The focus

shifts from the ritualistic Sunday liturgy in the temple to shared life. The question is no longer, what are we going to do on Sunday's program? Otherwise, how are we going to take care of each other and express Christ this week? This is crucial because if the leader does not embrace this truth, they will sell the building to

buy a smaller one or rent another, perpetuating the same system. The change must be in the theological mindset. Step two, measure and eliminate maintenance overhead. Once the identity is transformed, the bold step is the financial one. You need to measure the overhead. A study reveals that the cost of church real estate is

immense. $230 billion. If your church is spending between 50 and 85% of its funds on maintaining that structure, fixed clergy salaries, property maintenance, you are in the ecclesiastical dinosaur model that is costing more than it can sustain. The goal is to reduce the building's overhead to zero or ideally reduce the organization's total overhead to

less than 5%. This implies radical actions. Evaluate the sale or disuse of the building if it is owned. Cancel the rental and move to meetings in homes. Drastically reduce fixed infrastructure costs, electricity, water, insurance. Restructure the support of leaders, not a fixed salaried clergy, but support for itinerant workers or aid to the poor. Financial liberation is

the result of conceptual liberation. The question is no longer how much I need for payment, but how much I can free up for the mission. Step three, implement the transition to household groups. The transition to the organic model is not just a move, it is a functional change. If you have freed yourself from the building, now

you have to free the people. The model of meetings in homes is the New Testament standard, but it is not enough to meet in a home if the leader continues to monopolize the ministry. We do n't want a house church that remains an institutional church in a living room. The key is the model of free

participation and Christ's leadership. Look at how this works in reality. In the organic model, the leader, an elder, a pastor, does not have absolute control of time. The meeting is open to the mutual ministry of all. This [music] means that, as 1 Corinthians 14:26 says, when you come together, each one of you has a

psalm, has teaching, has revelation, has tongue, has interpretation. Do you notice the [music] difference? If your community still believes that only one man, the pastor, is ordained and is the mediator of the word, then the institutional system will remain. The money released will be used again to

pay the sole pastor. And what does the New Testament say? that every believer is a functional priest. The practical application is to equip, not to monopolize. The leader must dedicate his time freed from building administration to equipping the saints, according to Ephesians 4: 11-16, ensuring that all can minister to the functional plurality.

Leadership should be shared by several elders, eliminating the figure of the single pastor who inherits the controlling mentality of the monarchical bishop. End of title document. Elders should be recognized for their role, care, and teaching, not for a title or fixed salary that separates them from Laos, the people of God. Step five, redirect 95% of the

released budget. This is the step that gives meaning to the entire transition. Financial liberation is not for personal savings, it is for multiplying the mission. building, the Basilica of Constantine, is the cost of the impediment. By selling or leaving the building, you are literally releasing God's mission and love. The path of deinstitutionalization is, ultimately, the construction of a new kind of social and spiritual, not physical, architecture. The New Testament model is an architecture of the living organism. What does this

architecture look like in real life? First, the floor and the pulpit are at the same level. There is no physical or ministerial elevation. Teaching is dialogic, conversational, based on questions, and not monologic. A man's sermon. They are all priests and they all speak in an orderly fashion. Second, the table, the communion is the center, not the altar and the

ritual. The focus of the meeting should be communion, agape, shared life, the Lord's Supper as a feast. This is a contrast to the solemn and somber ritual we separated from food in the 1st century. Third, resources circulate outwards. Optimizing resources for the mission and the poor becomes the natural flow of the community, not a

program. [music] Imagine for a moment an analogy. The institutional church is a warship. It is enormous, slow, has thick armor, is expensive to maintain, and difficult to maneuver. It needs a unique captain. The Organic Church is a flotilla of speedboats. They are small, agile, cheap to maintain, move quickly, and the loss of one does not stop the others.

What happens when the fleet moves? Mutual ministry and shared life become the catalyst for growth. The spectator becomes a minister, the minister becomes a priest, and the priest becomes an active and mature member of the body. The great challenge facing Christianity today is not a lack of money or faith, but the lack of a functional structure that

allows faith and resources to move freely. By getting rid of the building, you are not destroying the church. You are deinstitutionalizing the vehicle so that the spirit and body of Christ can run free in the world. The path of revolution is simple, but it requires radical courage. It requires you to look at that beautiful and

expensive building and say, "You are not the temple." We are, and our mission is more important than your mortgage. Now you see the fatal mistake. The church building was a historical adaptation, a Roman costume that cost us billions of dollars and the functionality of the body of Christ. Breaking free from the brick is not an

act of rebellion, but a return to biblical wisdom. You have discovered that by letting go of the Uberhead, you unleash the potential of the mission and the authenticity of the community. From today onwards, when you see your church's electricity bill, remember this. My mission is more important than my Uberhead. Start by identifying one

non-essential fixed expense this week— rent, maintenance, [music] —and calculate how much that amount would free up for the poor.
