Music and video is like an emotional compass. It's supposed to guide how we feel with what's happening on screen. So when writing my scripts, I'll choose two or three songs that when used together kind of feel like I'm being taken on a journey. But I can hear you ask, how do you know which songs to choose?

Well, here's what I look for when I'm choosing my music. Before I write anything down, I'll define three clear sections of where I want the story to go. So I start with energy and then move to a feeling of nostalgia and then end with optimism. Once that's clear, I'll start looking for music.

And I'll pay attention to things like how I feel when I listen to a song and what I can picture on screen in my head. But it's not just the vibe I'm looking for. But choosing songs with clear crescendo, strong rhythmic moments or emotional shifts all help the story come together in the edit.

The emotional art comes first and then the music follows. and this way I know exactly how my video is going to feel before I even start shooting. Hope this helps.
