Most people don't know there's a million miles of cables hidden in the ocean, and that they're becoming a huge concern. Yep, they're called submarine cables. And right now, there's about 600 of them on the ocean floor connecting the continents. And while they drastically range in size, they power the global internet and transfer over 95% of international data, including trillions of dollars per day.
But here's the problem. Each year, they're accidentally damaged about 200 times by anchor tracking and fishing. And because of this, there's a rising concern that they can be intentionally damaged and targeted during global conflicts.
