How do you negotiate a higher salary? You come with receipts. People think that the negotiation happens in that one meeting, in that one room. Absolutely not. That's the show. You got to prepare for the show. End of year raises and promotions happen in the summer. That's where you're going to sit your manager down and say, hey, five, six months of the

year have already happened. These are the three amazing things that I've already accomplished. I am so, so excited for the rest of the year. These are my goals. in addition to these goals, what other benchmarks or milestones would I need to hit to be in a good place to get this XYZ? Your manager is going to tell you, you need to be doing this. You need to

be doing that. You need to be doing this. Now you have a list. Take those things. Over the next six months, you crush it. The mistake some people make is that everyone wants pay rises. Everyone wants to be paid more. But you have to back it up. HR sometime in November, December will go to

your boss and be like, all right, you've got $40,000 for the whole team, whole team. So maybe there's like 10 people on this team and your boss then has to decide which mouths to feed. Some managers who are bad managers will just be like, okay, well, that's easy. Everybody gets $4,000. That's how you lose your top talent. Unfortunately, if you want to retain the best

talent, you've got to feed the rich and starve the poor. That's brutal. Your best performers need to get paid. You got to keep them. The people who are at the bottom 10%, it might be time to have a conversation of letting them know that they're not going to be around for much longer. It sucks,
