25 years of psychiatry training in 60 seconds. Let's go. Number one, all problems are emotional problems. You think you have individual problems in your marriage, in your work, with your teenager, but that's an illusion. You actually have one problem and that's your inability to process and release unpleasant emotions. Number two, when you feel unpleasant emotions, you end up reacting in one of five ways.
Ruminating in your mind, venting with a friend, analysis with a talk therapist, acting it out, or numbing and distracting. Emotions are automatic body sensations. Feelings, on the other hand, are made up by the mind after the fact based on your past experiences. In other words, your brain is always putting your past into your present.
Number five, anger is usually a cover up for fear. Number six, of all the fears, the fear of being humiliated or being seen as less than in some way is the biggest one. Number seven, there are two ways to build emotional mastery. Top down, working with your thoughts and core wounds and inner child work or bottom up, body somatic practices.
Both are important. Number eight, somatic body methods have two parts to them. One is learning how to process and release strong emotions in your body. But the second is also expanding your nervous system container so these emotions don't overwhelm you in the first place. Number nine, whatever you judge in someone else is also inside of you.
And whatever you're judging in yourself is also in other people. Number 10, you have innate wisdom inside of you, kind of like the sunshine. Even when it's nighttime where you live, the sun hasn't vanished. You just can't see it right there. The same thing with your inner wisdom. You have to learn how to find it and listen to it.
