Let's make one thing clear. This protest is not about Sonam Bangshuk sir. This protest is not about CGP. This protest is not about making one minister resign. It's about protecting one of the most important institutions of our country which is education. See if you're born into privilege you're not affected by this that much. Your life is not dictated or decided by education. You have wealth,
you have connections, you have opportunities that lie outside of your academic accomplishments. But that's not the case for most Indians. For millions of Indians education has been a very reliable path to a better quality life. When people are born in a lower economic class for example their parents ask them to study hard, get a decent degree, get a good job and it's not
because they're obsessed with marks they're trying to make sure that their children have access to opportunities that they never had through education. This is called upward social mobility. It's the ability of one generation being able to live a better quality life than the ones that came before it and education in our country is a very reliable vehicle to do that. The ability for someone who
doesn't have a good quality life to eventually have a better quality life is exactly what we protecting here Which is why having an education system that is so broken unpredictable flawed but also unaccountable for their problems is so dangerous Because you not just affecting one batch of students If your education system does not improve, this is going to take away people's ability and hope for having a better quality life, especially if they don't currently have one.
See, a functional society depends on one simple promise. If you work hard, you deserve better opportunities. And education has been the way to do that for millions of Indians so far. If you don't have standards for protecting the credibility of that promise, you're causing many issues. Upward social mobility becomes harder, inequality keeps growing, and the family that you're born in matters more than what your accomplishments are.
