Before the addiction, there was a child who didn't know how to cry in a house that punished tears. Before the pills, there was a woman who didn't know how to rest in a life that punished stillness. Before the drink, there was a person who didn't know how to feel safe in a body that had never once been a safe place to live.
The drug didn't create the wound. The drug found the wound and moved in. See, addiction is not a moral failure. It is a love story gone wrong. A love story between a person and the only thing that ever made the noise stop. The only thing that ever turned the volume down on a childhood that
was too loud and a life that was too much and a pain that had no name and no end. You don't You hate the addict. You grieve the child who needed something that badly and the part that will twist your insides if you let it. The thing they addicted to is not the substance It the relief The three seconds between the hit and the hurt coming back Three seconds of warmth in a body that learned cold before it learned comfort Three seconds of
belonging in a soul that has been an outsider in its own skin. You try giving that up. You try walking away from the only thing that ever felt like home recovery ain't about willpower recovery is about finding something that gives you those three seconds back without taking everything else going back to that child the one who started all of this
and until we start answering that question right with presence with safety with truth with love that don't come with conditions, people will keep finding the wrong answer in the right bottle. The addiction was never the disease. The disease was the pain that needed that much medicine.
