Have you ever wondered how cheekbones affect your facial balance? Research on facial perception shows that we process faces as a whole, not as isolated features. Your cheekbones sit at the centre of the face and play a key role in organising that perception. If you have higher, more projected cheekbones, they tend to create more definition through the midface.
The face can appear more structured and the transition between the eyes, cheeks and lower face is more pronounced. If you have lower or flatter cheekbones, the midface tends to appear softer and less angular. In some cases, it can make the midface appear slightly longer. There are also anatomical variations across populations. In East Asia, facial structures tend to have wider, more laterally positioned cheekbones
with less forward projection. Whereas in European countries, facial structures tend to show more anterior projection through the midface. Neither is better. And it's not about high or low. It's about how that structure helps shape the entire balance and harmony of the face.
