Is surgery for failed back syndrome effective is one of the questions we got. What is failed back? Failed back is a situation where a patient has had multiple spine surgeries, particularly in the lumbar spine. It refers more to the thoracolumbar spine than the cervical spine. And if the patient has not benefited from these surgeries and continues to experience debilitating symptoms, we call this failed back syndrome.
Now fortunately, this has become a lot less common than it used to be in the earlier days. Thanks to newer technologies like minimally invasive surgery, navigation guided surgery, endoscopic spine surgery and various other pain management modalities, failed back can be very effectively and easily treated today.
