In psychology, the strongest signs of advanced emotional intelligence or EQ is that you struggle to hate someone wholeheartedly because you understand the reasons behind their behavior. Technical term for this psychological trait is cognitive empathy. You don't just see what they did, you understand why they did it. And that's a unique trait, almost a gift God gave you.
But sometimes it feels like a curse. Because once you train yourself to understand people, you cannot unsee their pain, even if they hurt you. You see their childhood traumas behind the sarcasm. You see the fear behind the distance they create. You see the insecurity behind the betrayal, the self behind the cruelty and then you are stuck between awareness that you have and the boundaries that you want to have Too aware to stay angry but too hurt to pretend that it did not matter
You carry it silently, and you wish that sometimes another person looks at you with that understanding and depth to get to know you better. But the reality is, just because something makes sense does not mean it gets to stay in your life. You can forgive someone's humanity, but still protect your peace. Emotional intelligence does not mean emotional availability to everything or
everyone. You can understand someone, but still walk away from it. That is not cold or uncaring behavior. That simply is clarity and vision to protect your peace and your sanity. Hope this resonates. Love always.
