If you have someone in your life going through addiction, listen to me carefully. These are 10 things they need to hear from you. 1. I'm not shutting the door on you. There's a difference between walking away from toxic behaviour and abandoning a human being. 2. I don't fully understand what's going on in your head, but I want to.

Stop trying to judge them, start trying to understand them. Three, you don't have to fake it with me. A lot of addicts become masters at pretending to be okay. Four, I'm not angry with you. I'm scared for you because I love you. Big difference. Five, what do you actually need right now? Not what you think they need, ask them.

Six, this addiction doesn't change how I see you Because underneath the addiction is still somebody's son, daughter, husband, wife, human being. Seven, I know this didn't start with the drugs. And that sentence alone can make somebody finally feel seen. Eight, I'll sit here with you. We don't even need to talk. Sometimes presence is more powerful than words.

9. Getting help is not a weakness in my opinion asking for help is one of the bravest things you can do and 10 I'm proud of you for still fighting because some people give up completely and the fact they're still here means something you can't force somebody to heal but you can create an environment

where they feel safe enough to try again think about it
