For the first time ever, scientists have 3D printed a living human cornea. And it actually works. So researchers in South Korea developed a bio ink made from collagen and stem cells that mimics the exact structure and transparency of a natural cornea. In testing, the printed tissue showed over 90% cell viability and maintained the optical clarity needed for real vision.
But here's why this matters beyond the lab. Over 12 million people today worldwide are blind because there simply aren't enough donor corneas to go around. This technology, however, doesn't need a donor. It just prints one. Early testing shows that the printed corneas can integrate with surrounding tissue, which means that the eye doesn't just accept it,
the eye also connects with it. Isn't this amazing? Comment your thoughts below and hit follow.
